Great for bass...

I recently used one of these pedals during the recording of my bands most recent album. I wanted to achieve a very dirty, digital sounding distortion without losing the low end of my bass. This pedal did just that, fantastic, dirty tone. Boosts sustain gigantically. I hope to purchase one of these pedals to put on my board in the very near future.

This is an amazing pedal. Have had it for 6 years now. Long, beautiful sustain for days. Can get anything from silky smooth overdrive to gutsy fuzz. The only reason I gave quality a 4 is because the tapering on the knobs get extremely loose over time. If mine breaks I will buy another one.

I'm a bassist who needed some distortion without compromising my tone and this thing does the trick. Our band is doing Song #2 by Blur, and I thought this would be a good effect for that, and it is- especially makes a great effect with my fretless! I'm going to use it on other tunes because we have one guitarist and want to fill more sonic territory while he wails. Back to the pedal- to me, this pedal sounds like I'm just overdriving my amp, plus, I'm able to tweak the sound to suit my needs, all with some simple controls. My only gripe so far (I've only owned it for 2mos) is that there's no AC power supply jack! Batteries only! Is this some kind of Post-Cold War Punishment?? I can't wait to mix this effect with the Octaver that I have coming in the mail and an auto-wah vs env filter, once I make that final choice.

I bought this pedal recently and I must tell you... this thing rocks! It's very simple: Volume, Sustain (dist.), and Tone. Set them as you like and just GO! This Russian-made version is much smoother than the USA reissue. I find that when I turn up the tone control on this one, it maitains the smooth low-end much more than the USA version. The USA one gets very mosquito like at high tone settings! For Eric Johnson-ish tones, I dial the sustain between 1:00 and full, and the tone @ about 11:00. This version has less of a harsh fuzz tone, but rather a thick, creamy distortion. Think of Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf." It also cleans up much nicer when you roll the guitar volume back. It maintains some of the highs for definition and doesn't become muddy like the USA one. Mine has true-bypass so it doesn't color my clean tone. I recommend you do this as it is VERY easy and inexpensive to do! Sounds awesome plugged into my Danelectro Dan-Echo Delay and Holy Grail Reverb, then into a clean tube amp turned up to about 5-7 (for a little dirt, but not too much). BUY IT NOW!!!

Decent Distortion

If you're looking for the most massive, fuzzed-out guitar tone on earth, there is nothing better than a Big Muff. I got mine some time ago, when it was in a somewhat different housing, but it's always been rock-solid as far as durability goes. I'm something of a distortion connosseiur, and I have to say that this thing puts out more of it than anything else I've ever heard. Sounds good on, and at a lot of different settings. But it SUCKS YOUR TONE WHEN IT'S OFF. I experience a dramatic volume dropoff when the pedal isn't engaged, and no tone whatsoever. Totally vanilla clean, not what I have my amp set for at all. If you're looking to play primarily heavily distorted material or psychedelic rock, this is great. But if you want dynamic shifts and a good clean tone, I'd pass if I were you.
