Good pedal, but try before you buy

This is a good, high quality pedal at a decent price. However there are a few things you should know.
The Holy Stain multi effects pedal is just that, a multi effects pedal. Here's how it works. There are four different settings, room reverb, hall reverb, pitch shift, and tremolo. With each setting you can choose between clean, fuzz, or drive. Besides that you have a Mix, Amount, and Tone knobs to control the primary effect and than a Color knob for the Dirt setting. On top of everything you have a Volume knob.
Both reverbs are good and similar to the EH Holy Grail. The Mix and Amount settings give you plenty of options to create great verb sounds.
The pitch shift in my opinion is a piece crap and a waste of space on the pedal. You can't do full octives and regardless of what you do it sounds bad.
The tremolo is a like the EH Pulsar which is good. Again the Mix and Amount knobs alow a vast variety of tremolo effects.
The Drive secondary effects give you more tonal possibilites but also run into some problems. All three settings (Clean, Fuzz, and Drive) sound good but like most drive pedals the Fuzz and Drive settings are somewhat noisy. The Clean channel doesn't change the sound at all while the Fuzz sounds a whole like the Big Muff. My biggest complaint is the lack of control over the Fuzz and Drive because you can't change the amount of either, it's just set. Also these channels run quite a bit louder than the clean. Overal though these are fun to play with.
In conclusion for $100 you get to play with the Holy Grail, Pulsar, Big Muff, and then some. Good for a first pedal because you get lots to play with and than when you get more pedals you can still use one or two settings are your board. I use it mostly for reverb now. EH makes great pedals and this isn't an exception. Be sure to try it before you buy it though to make sure it's what you're looking for.
couldn't beleive it

By far the worst electro harmonix pedal, and one of the worst pedals I have ever used in my effect chain. I expected more and was really let down. the fuzz is ok...I guess. All the other effects are terrible. I would not recomend this pedal to anyone.
Outstanding Once I got used to it!

Like other reviews, I thought the pedal was defective, but It just has to be hooked up in series. I have a boss Noise Reducer which has an effect loop. It doesn't like that, and that was okay cause I just re-configured my pedals to all be in series and it works fine now.
This pedal sounds really Great. It takes a while to get the hang of it, and you HAVE to read the manual, and it's very short. I got this pedal cause I've never had a Reverb pedal. I was prepared to be disappointed on the other features, but I was pleasantly suprised at the distortions. They are crunchy and punchy, and very organic and tube-like. This pedal makes me want to sell all my pedals and get all Electro Harmonix now!
You cannot control the Gain Level on the distortions, but after a while, you don't want to. You can control their volume, and the tone controls are very extensive. You can get A LOT of different charactersitic with these controls.
This pedal plays well with other pedals also. I put my sansamp pedal in front of it in reverb mode and distortion off, and got some awesome tones.
This is a great additon to my pedal board! It sounds great by itself, and it adds another dimension to several of my other pedals.
Pretty good

This pedal has a ton of features, but a few of them are not the best. Such as the fuzz and distortion. They both are extremely loud compared to the clean channel. And when you turn the pedal on, it makes this fuzzy sound. But the reverb is amazing and I use that the most. You can create great volume swells using it. The tremolo is nice too.
exactly the sound i was looking for

Great pedal, totally great, except for you can't control gain and switch between clean/drive/fuzz with footswitch. Anyway - it sounds great! I have lots of pedals, tube preamp and all that stuff and it sounds really rich and full.
