The EVH Wolfgang electric guitar represents 2 years of intense research and development, and a year of brutal testing on the road. With every aspect examined and upgraded to the highest standards, the EVH Wolfgang has been produced to Eddie's exact specifications and has features identical to the Wolfgang guitars he records and performs with. The EVH Wolfgang includes a distinctive double-cutaway body with an arched AA maple top on a lightweight basswood back, a quartersawn single-piece AA bird's-eye maple neck fitted with stainless steel frets, double-potted custom-wound guitar pickups, five-piece binding on the matching body and headstock, custom-made signature tuning machines, Floyd Rose double-locking trem with the patented EVH D-Tuna drop-D tuning system, and Bourns low-friction pots.

Another distinctive Eddie-mod is the 3-way pickup toggle wired in reverse: the up position (normally the neck pickup) is the bridge pickup, down (normally the bridge) is the neck pickup.

EVH Gear sent one of these out for me to use on Classic Van Halen DVD: Phrase by Phrase Guitar Method, (Musicians Friend item # 620549). I had the incredible task of learning 10 Van Halen songs note for note and turning them into video lessons for the DVD. I had rehearsed for months on other studio guitars, but when the EVH Wolfgang showed up everything came together perfectly. The neck is incredibly fast and the tone is dead on EVH tone! The guitar is gorgeous in appearance as well, (I played the Vintage White Maple Top finish on the DVD). Every feature of this guitar is grade A professional! Nothing has been overlooked. Unfortunately the guitar was a loaner and I had to return it to EVH Gear when filming was complete, but playing it and recording with it in the studio was a dream! I give it my highest possible rating.

I decided to upgrade from the previous Wolfgang and purchased a black EVH Wolfgang. Here's the deal-the workmanship on this instrument is outstanding! The pickups are all that you read about in the reviews. I plugged mine into a Marshall Vintage Modern and made a direct comparison with the Peavey model...NIGHT AND DAY difference in tonal quality! The guitar just feels great. No complaints...

I own, both the Peavy Wolfgang and the EVH Fender Custom Shop Wolfgang, the vintage White model. Both of them have a special place in my heart, specially the Peavey because I have gigged with it and have been a very good practice guitar for a while now, but that’s just me being sentimental. Now for the real truth, when it comes to quality, finish, binding, pickup responsiveness, materials, resonance, action, ease of playing, attack, mellowness, versatility and reliability, the EVH Wolfgang does everything better than the Peavy, the Peavy has a really great tone and responsiveness for the price, but as Mr. EVH states, when it comes to a “quality, toney, sexy, indestructible instrument”, the EVH Wolfgang IS a far better guitar, and it is NOT overpriced, something that most people seem to overlook is that this instrument is: (i) made by the Fender Custom Shop, which means that it uses the highest standard materials, and you can see them and hear them. No Fender Custom Shop guitar worth its salt is going to cost less than at least 2.5K and I promise you (because I’ve played them) none of them is anywhere near this instrument, (ii) it has a research, crash test and trial and error development of three plus years and (iii) can really put the moves on guitars that are double the price. I think Mr. EVH may be getting richer yes, but he also made sure that this guitar is a killer instrument with all the appointments and tone required by even the freakiest of experts. This is no Peavy reloaded, this is an entirely new guitar built by an entirely different people in entirely different times than the Peavy, and if you can’t hear and feel the difference you’re not playing it right or you just don’t want to realize it. The feel of the neck and strumming one single chord should let you know the difference.

Nice guitar, Ed lives to chase tones, well congratulations, they knocked this one out of the park! Custom shop quality guitar. Stainless steel frets, and the smooth potentiometer volume knob are the best. Larger knob for easy and quick turning. Super smooth playability and a really nice warm tone. This guitar will outlive you. I really bend strings a lot.. these frets don't even have a mark on them!! amazing. The neck shape fits your hands without the thought of "trying to get used to it". and super smooth. Right out of the box, no set up required, string action is perfect. Finally a durable case fit for the guitar! NO neck shifting-fits the guitar like a glove. Pickups are excellent, smooth and not too harsh sounding. Roll off the volume to clean up the tone. Real floyd rose. very durable guitar,well made. Simple layout- not a lot of extra gadgets you will never use-just the ones you will. Every sound is usable, bridge pickup for rock, front pickup for jazz, blues, both pickups for clean,round tones. Well balanced-doesn't feel neck or body heavy. Sits right in your lap-doesn't make you adjust your body to play it. D-tuner, etc,, the list goes on, buy one and play it for your self!
