I played one of these a little bit, and WOW! This is a top quality amp! Nice gain structure, and when you play this one, copared to the other 5150s, you notice that the quality on this one is greater than previous models, as EVH now works with fender. There was a huge difference, and this is a great amp.

Tone Tone TONE!

I've owned countless Marshall's, Peavey 5150's/6505s, Carvins etc. etc. The EVH 5150 III is the best tube amp I've ever heard. Channel one has a nice clean tone, channel 2 is the early 1978-1980 EVH tone, Channel 3 has the Fair Warning tone and more..... I've read some reviews where people say that channel 2 lacks gain?? Hmmm, you do need a decent guitar to project your tone and also good pickups. Channel 2 is about TONE and sustain, not fuzzy distortion. I set my gain control at 2pm and it works more than fine (nice punchy plexi tone) and leaves headroom to add more if needed. Channel 3 I use for leads and boosting the signal above the mix. Can't say enough about this head. I've had it for a year without any issues and gig every week. The best tone ever! Ya gotta have an ear for dialing amps in to make this amp shine to it's full potential.. The user settings are pretty close and I suggest using them. If the amp doesn't sound good with those settings you need to get a better guitar..

My ears are bleeding!

Finally after a long search I have found the perfect amp! Iv'e had them all and never found the tube metal sound I was looking for until now! This amp is a tone searchers dream right out of the box! Just by playing it for 10 minutes I was overwhelmed by just the recommended settings they give you in the manual. I like the kind of 80's metal sound and now I have it! I recommend you try this amp and I guarantee you will like it, and if you don't, you must be tone deaf! What are you waiting for, stop reading this and buy it!!

Fender can't handle it

The 5150 series has been said to be an one trick pony, and the original block letter Peavey did it well. I tried this amp out in a local store and it lost most of its VH characteristics while sounded like another high gain cookie cutter. If you want to sound like the classic EVH do not even aim this way; try the original first. If you want a high gain amp that would do metal and rock, cheaper amps are as good fit as this one.

This head is perfect. There is not a single sound that you can't conjure out of this head. It's just plain perfect. Once I get some more munnies I'm bringing this home.
