Brutal!

This 7 is brutal! The headstock is a tad on the heavy side, but because I am a bigger guitar player, I can hold it up and play without problem. Since buying it I had installed a PA2 for the EMG pickups which helped to no end, and I dyed the fretboard black to make it look like an Ebony fretboard. Pick up this guitar, there is no better 7 string for this value and you will never match this tone with an Ibanez 7!

I tried this guitar out in my local shop not too long ago. First off, the XJ frets are crazy tall, but the feel is great. You get a solid grip on the strings which also allows for some excellent vibrato and bending.

Second, the EMGs on this puppy shovel out some brutal tone. It's almost overwhelming, but if you dial back the gain on the amp, you can get some amazingly versatile sounds ranging from full death metal shred to biting classic rock growl.

The construction is top notch as you'd expect for the price range. I just wish they had it in other colors. Not all of us 7 string players subscribe to the Goth-Black-Metal-Hardcore image. I definitely wont one though.

Incredible sound, phenominal play

This guitar was my first seven string. I decided on it without ever playing it, but it was worth every penny from the moment I took it out of the box. It's been my number one guitar for two years now. I play it through a Marshall Amp with Boss distortions of various kinds and can't find anything that gets a smooth, agressive tone like this guitar. The fretboard is wide, but on a 25.5" scale making it no longer than any usual guitar. The play is easy with the action on the floor, and pinch harmonics scream through the EMG pick ups. My only complaint is balance of its weight. It's top heavy, but if you move the pegs a little, it's less of a problem. I still haven't found a guitar I like better.

This is the second 7 string i have owned and the first ESP. The first thing that got me was the neck was comparitvely huge. In my opinion, the 24XJ was not a good choice for the fretboard. i would have preferred jumbo or even medium.

The second thing that threw me off was that it was EXXTREMELY top heavy. yes, two x's for extrea extreme. i find myself playing like fieldy (korn's bassist) from time to time just because i get tired of holding the neck of this guitar up with my fretboard hand. fortunately, i dont play a whole show with this guitar.

The sound on this guitar, however, is amazing. i absolutely love playing it a step down and hitting that low A. if only my speaker cabinet could hold up the low end on this thing, i would be rockin. i figure with a krank set-up this thing would kill. we shall see...

great guitar, great 7 string, but not my first choice for an unexperienced guitar player.
