This is a pretty wicked guitar, easy to play. it has a thick trebly sound like no other. but ive been messing around with the settings and I was supprised to find that the EMGs give off a really nice clean sound too. The only real thing that i dont like is that the strings on mine buzz on the frets a little. but it makes no difference on the sound out of the amp and it probably could be fixed by ajdusting the nut or bridge or something like that. also its a little neck heavy, this hasn't really gotten in the way so suck it up cause the neck heavyness comes with the explorer shape in general.

The Ex-401 is truly an amazing guitar. The EMG's give it the perfect sound for metal, especially through my Line 6 amp. I only wish it had 2 volume knobs instead of 1, but thats a minor set back. Overall, if you're looking for a guitar with great looks, great sound, and a great feel...look no further!

Great Guitar!

This is a great guitar, for a great price, I've played explorer models at nearly twice the price w/ half the tone of this beast, the Set Neck coupled with the EMG 81/60 active set is all you need for great cleans and heavy as hell grit, even with a cheap imitation rectifier amp-mod pedal I use from time to time this guitar sounds amazing! I've heard people say the EX series is too heavy, well they're made of weak sauce I say! (buy some dumbells or something) My Epi Les Paul is at least 4lbs heavier then the EX-401 If you want a great above entry level shredder look no more for this is your next guitar purchase!

more bada$$ than a gibson explorer!

This guitar is by far the most verstile and easiest instrument to play that ive ever had. It has a smooth, fast neck, and standing up and playing is not a problem because it is very light but just a tad neck heavy so don't let go of the neck when you stand. If always been a fan of gibson explorers and always played this black one at my local music store. But face it: with a gibson all your paying for is the name and a 22 coat of laquered paint job. No different than a high end epiphone people. And with this guitar as opposed to a true explorer, you get emgs that scream all genres from metal to jazz to punk even. So you want a nice explorer with killer looks for half the price? Go with ESP.
