This is your fuzz tone

A great pedal. Finally makes those open E power chord to E9 riffs sound good. (the progression sounded to jazzy until I bought this. It will make you want to play loose... It will make you want to play slow. It will inspire you. It sounds great for open tunings with my Decca. Sounds like hendrix with my strat. It's very sensitive to what you put in front of it. Sounds creamier if you put a tone sucking pedal like a wah in front of it... Suppose you could just eq your amp if you have a good amp... Anyway, this pedal is making me sell my Marshall MG HDFX 100 for a epiphone valve jr and a bugera 1960 plexi. Do it, buy it now!!!

This is a great fuzz from Dunlop. While most of the mass produced germanium fuzzes fall short, companies seem to be having pretty good luck with silicon based designs, such as this one. However, shockingly, this thing doesn't have much of a Handrix vibe. I'll get to that later.
This, being a silicon fuzz, is voiced a lot different than the earlier germanium fuzzes. It is gainier, raspier, and brighter, which results in a much different sound. This, in a lot of cases, is not a problem. If you're playing a Les Paul, I would recommend this over a germanium, for the germaniums tend to be muddier when working with an already beefier, darker tone.
Now, why do I think this doesn't really attain the "Hendrix-vibe?" When I think of Hendrix tone, I think of mainly two songs in particular: Love or Confusion (the EPITOME of gooey 60's fuzz) and Red House. Both these were achieved with Germanium fuzzes on top of a fairly bright (in Red House's case, a BRIGHT) clean Strat sound. However, later in his career, he achieved some GREAT silicon fuzz tones, such as the entire Band of Gypsies album. However, like I said, when I think of "Hendrix fuzz," his earlier germanium tones come to mind before anything.

This is the one you want. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. If you can't find Jimi's tone with this, then you never will. I'm using a Strat with Vintage Lindy Fralins pickups through a Deluxe Reverb and Red House has never sounded better. Add a Crybaby and let your Voodoo Child loose. You can even tone it down to get thet David Gilmour distortion. And using my SG with '57 Classics captures that Toni Iommi sound from early Sabbath to a tee. All in all, I think it is the s*** and would never go without it again.

This unit is very sensitive to what guitars and amps you use with it. I feel that this is a good thing since I use a few different guitars. Of course a guy with a Les Paul is not going to get the Hendrix tone-USE A STRAT FOR THAT!!! The controls cover a huge spectrum which is also really good. Be careful with the drive control. You cant just crank everything all the way up and expect to sound like Jimi. Anyway, I get good non-Jimi tones out of this as well. The thing is built well, looks cool, and is a good piece for my massive collection of stomp boxes. It is a bit expensive and I dont use it that much, but I'll keep it.

I bought this pedal for Christmas, and then sent it back. In my opinion, this pedal sounds nothing like Hendrix whatsoever. If you want a better, more diverse fuzz pedal then just get a Big Muff. It sounds a lot more like hendrix than this thing - the fuzz face has no tone versatility. I played my fuzz face both with my pedal board (it did something funny here) and without, and it just didn't cut that classic hendrix sound for me. Now I played it through a Les Paul and a Marshall JCM, so you would think that it would sound similar to Hendrix, but no...To me it seems like you are paying for the name here: not quality or performance.
