A super-hot, super-flexible modeler, effects processor, tuner, and drum machine at a jaw-dropping low price!
Powered by DigiTech's AudioDNA™2 DSP processor, the RP70 includes detailed models of boutique stompboxes, amps, cabinets and effects. The RP70's tone and effect libraries allow you to quickly and easily get any sound you want. It's like having a music store at your disposal. From hot-rodded rock and roll to metal, the RP70 has everything you need to get the tones you want or need. To top it all off, the chorus and DigiTech Whammy™ effects can be re-arranged to go before the amp model or after which ever you desire.
The RP70 features 1/4" a guitar input along with separate left and right 1/4" output jacks that can be connected to either an amplifier or mixer for direct recording with a press of the Amp/Mixer switch that engages the internal speaker cabinets for direct recording. Rounding off the outputs is a separate, stereo 1/8" headphone jack for practicing purposes. To control the wah and Whammy, connect any expression pedal to the 1/4" control input.
Because music isn't just about getting tones but writing songs, the RP70 also features 40 high-quality drum patterns to aid music creation and practice. Feeling sterile and need inspiration? Just turn on one of the drum patterns and see where it takes you.

Of course Digitech's presets are terrible, so don't judge it by those. But it only took about 5 minutes of skimming the manual to figure out how to get some very usable sounds. Each type of model has several variations (amps, pedals, effects) getting more intensified as you progress through them...easy. I habe had the real amps of most all the models in here, and they are definitely close enough for this price! The Twin is good, as are the plexis, 70's era, and JCMs. AC30 decent for cleaner/tremolo, and the Matchless one is good too. I didn't care for the Deluxe or Mesa models, and didn't get to their proprietary models yet.....I easily stored 13 or so presets and played for 2 hours with the built in drum beat! It was also easy to adjust tempo and volume. Tuner works good enough, and has various settings for detuning. Nice chorus, vibratos, leslie, and echoes. Great reverbs. I just plugged in some headphones, and rocked out for awhile with a Melody Maker into it. Another cool feature is the pickup modeler, which makes a single imitate a humbucking p/u or vice versa.
A friend of mine gave me this to store usable sounds in, but I just might have to keep it!

I spent about 2 hours with it, trying to learn the ins and outs. Even with the manual, it must have taken me about 3 hours to learn how to program it. I like the preset option.
I am writing this on a bias of one who likes ANALOG stomp boxes, mxr, eh, etc. but, I have wanted a digital delay lately to record a lick & play over that lick. I found I can do this.
Some of the sweet spots, 65 fender twin verb models. A pitch shifter/harmony. I have not tweeked this much yet, but I figured out how to get a minor 3rd note with the original. This could be cool for some harmony leads! The stepper effect is kinda cool! I didnt have a tremolo effect before, so now I have one. I think it could sound more vintage though. Of course, I would be impossible for a pre amp effect to bias power tubes...but, this IS the age of modeling, so who knows?!
I will probably be using this like another pedal to add to my others for the effects I mentioned. I own tube amps, and a tube od box, so I dont need the distortion or amp models.
Bottom line: if you are not a "tweeker" & you want instant gratification, or you are a new guitar player, teenager, etc...this box is for you!

I bought this over a week ago to go with my Crate FW 120 combo amp. While my Crate is a good amp, the effects on it are less than stellar, so I decided to reinvest in a Digitech RP series pedal and rather than get another RP-50 which I had been using for the past 7 years, I decided that some change was in order and I'm glad that I made the change. To say that this pedal is a improvement over the RP-50 is a understatement. The amp models on this are so accurate, it's scary. I'm using the 65 Fender Twin Reverb for my clean settings while the 83 Marshall JCM gladly takes care of my classic rock jones. The Digitech Metal 4 x 12 handles anything from Hair Metal to Trash very easily while the Boss DS-1 Distortion setting along with the Chorus effect allows for some hard rock and Blues tones which blend quite well with my Stratocaster. The acoustic setting actually sounds like an acoustic and not sterilized like that on the RP-50. I haven't had a chance to try all of the effects yet but I'm sure that they'll be just fine and I know that the casing is plastic but seeing that I used a RP-50 for stage use for over 7 years without any problems, I don't forsee anything happening with this one either. All in all, this is $ well spent.

The DigiTech RP70 does an awful lot for how much it costs. Most of the effects sound very good, and there are some very nice amp models. I had trouble getting a solid metal sound out of it, but I do play electric mandolin, not guitar. It is very easy to configure, and offers a lot of different options. An expression pedal can also be used to control lots of different parameters, such as a whammy pedal effect or the effect mix. The RP70 is made for expression pedals with 250 kOhm potentiometers, which are a little bit harder to find than the standard 10-25 kOhm. The manual doesn't make it very clear, but the expression pedal jack is meant for a TS input, which customer service cleared up quickly when I asked.

Have had this thing for a few months it hard to argue with all it does for the money. Does it sound as good as a $200 box that does one sound? Of course not (which should not be a huge surprise.) But it can crank out most of the effects you can imagine (plus some you probably couldn't) adds a drum machine and tuner (well, thats pretty worthless really but you can't have everything). This is a good buy. Not the sturdiest device with the plastic case but I have had no problems so far. It sounds pretty darn good to me, especially if you crank up your pickups to max (I'm using a fat strat). A great choice for beginners and intermediates or those on a tight budget.
