Get the best of both worlds with the DigiTech RP500 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal. The RP500 features a Pedalboard mode that allows you to turn on and off individual stompboxes and effects by pushing buttons 1-5. You get the expressiveness of stompboxes and you can change them from preset to preset. Next take the Amp/Cabinet Bypass button that defeats the internal amplifiers and cabinets leaving you with only stompboxes and effects and you have a switching machine. Save each combo in a preset for a uniquely switchable pedal setup found only in pro switching systems.

The RP500 Multi Effects Pedal is built like a tank, from a cast metal chassis to the 9 vacuum-style switches. A large 10 character LED display makes for easy stage use topped by an built-in expression pedal to control wahs, volume, Whammy™ and other parameters.

Your sound is king so having control of your sound is imperative. The DigiTech RP500 pedal gives you the control to express yourself the way you want—no longer will the lack of control stand in the way of your expression.

Simple affordable effects in one box

The amps I use already have good tone, so I was not at all interested in the amp modeling or distortions from this thing. What Digitech did right: They made it easy to use as an effects pedal.

The most musical and universally useful effects are compression, reverb, delay and chorus. Status quo effect: wah. Often helpful tool: VOLUME PEDAL. This pedal allows users to bypass all the extra digital modeling and use it just for those useful effects. THAT is smart!

Though I love my old-school dedicated pedals and will never sell them, this thing dramatically simplifies my set-up into a single neat package. I use it just like dedicated effects pedals for those simple musical effects.

Other reviewers have complained about the distortions from this thing. I agree, to a point. With the notable exception of the discontinued Roland GP100, I have never heard a modeling preamp that did a great job. You should know that I am basing that opinion on 40+ years of professional playing, so I have been around since WAY before these modeling-gizmos were invented. I can speak with some authority on this subject because I have truly played ALL the major brand-amps and most every boutique amp you can think of.

SO the point is, get your tone from your fingers, practice and experience. Buy a good amp... a REAL amp. THEN this becomes a good tool for adding effects. That alone makes it worth three-bills.

Digitech did another smart thing with this series: balanced STEREO outputs. All pros are stereo and all pros HATE noise.

Balanced stereo outs should be mandatory for ANY effect box that claims "professional" status.

In summary: Digitech has a good, simple easy to use tool here. If you use it for effects only, it is an affordable and elegantly straightforward musical device. If you want a "magic-box" that makes you sound like forty famous guitarists, or you want some mythical machine that covers-up your infantile sloppy technique... Keep looking. Let me know when you find that. I'll bet it is in the same place as flying pink unicorns.

Real players will use this as an effects pedal. For that alone, it is easily worth the dough.

Pretty sweet

Wow. This pedal is amazing. The lead guitarist in my band is a diehard boss pedal guy, but when he tried this thing out at practice, he was blown away. At first it's kinda complicated but after spending 10-15 minutes reading the instructions and messing around with it I had no trouble. The distortion pedal tones aren't that great but I just use the amp models mixed with overdrive and I can get really sweet distortions. My favorite part about this pedal is actually being able to upgrade the firmware on digitech.com The latest firmware comes with a free 20-second looper which is amazing sounding. It doesn't change the tone at all. My only problem with this pedal is that after a few months of gigging and hauling it around is that the tone library knob came off. I kept it because i can just stick it back in and turn it and it works just fine, I just wish that I didn't have to keep track of it. overall definitely worth the money.

The Next Generation in Gigging!

First of all, this is a 'must have' for the working musician! The patching abilities, all the banks of sounds, built like a tank and sounds exactly like you want it to. This is also the first unit that I've ever bought where the patches actually sounded good!

Lot's of great reviews, but the one thing I noticed is no one really tapped into "Sound Tweakability" this unit has. This unit has 3-4 levels of basic sound shaping (minus the effects). You start off with the ability to shape the basic Bass, Mid, Treble and Gain options by decimals now (not just the 1-10 limit). Then you have a separate EQ feature that breaks it down even more. Then you can add a Stompbox of your choice and shape the tone of it as well. Finally, the Cabinet choice is among the most important tone choice. WOW!! If you can't get a good sound of this ... then maybe you should take up the Tambourine!?

The recordings have been great too! I was worried about an overprocessed/fake sound, but I loaded the CD and the only problems I had (Windows 7) was the Cubase LE 4. Was unable to record anything. But luckily I have Acid Pro 6 and had no problem getting this unit to record in Acid. sounded amazing (through the onboard USB connection).

I use it through the FX return in my Hughes & Kettner 20th anniversary 20 watt tube amp and it sounds amazing!!! Most of my guitars have the active EMG sets and I've had no problems with the tones.

I definitely recommend this! This unit has proven to be light years ahead of the competition guys (user friendliness, reliability and tone)!

Worth every penny

Worth every penny. I have had this thing for about a week. And I love it. I have had 2 other Digitech products in the past and have had no problems with either of them. The last one I had was the RP 250. I bought this one because it has metal foot switchs. And it has some other amps and effects that I have been wanting like the triple rectofire and JC 120. So if you're looking for a new multi effects pedal buy this one. Like my title it's WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!!!!!!!!

Good, solid equipment.

This is a very good unit for the price. If you have a good guitar and a good amp, you can use this tool to get quite a lot of great versitale sounds. The effects are numerous and very tweakable which is nice, and the expression pedal is great for use with Whammy, Volume, Wah-Wah, and other presets. I've had this thing for a year now and I'm still tweaking my own personal presets how I want them. It seems like every day I find a new sound I can get out of this. My only complaint (and I'm just being picky here), is that the Wah activates when too much pressure is put on the expression pedal. This causes problems when using that pedal for other effects. But once you get used to it, you can avoid this.

Its important to remember that mind shattering tone won't be found in this box. Your guitar and amp play the biggest part of your overall tone. But if you are willing to take the time to edit your presets and find the sounds you want, this is a good investment.
