The DigiTech HardWire Series TL-2 is a metal distortion pedal that lets you pick your poison. Metal can come at you fast with tight low-end and a crunching top—or stalk you slowly with a low, throaty roar that sizzles on the high end. The TL-2 distortion pedal's Tight/Loose switch controls the "tightness" of the low end and adjusts the midrange frequency to provide the best overall tone. Level, Gain, and Low, Mid and High tone controls with sweepable midrange allow you to dial in any tone with ease.

The HardWire pedals series represents the DigiTech commitment to quality and attention to subtle details. In addition to technical enhancements like true bypass and high voltage operation, all HardWire pedals feature rugged, all-metal construction; a wide, stage-stable footprint; durable, custom-machined metal knobs for a sure grip; and precision potentiometers that guarantee knob positions will stay intact.

The rugged, durable construction of Extreme Performance Pedals is just the beginning. Inside each HardWire pedal are technological features that serious players require—all updated and improved to their utmost capacity. True bypass preserves the purity of your original tone as signal passes through the pedal, and high voltage operation further protects your sound by eliminating clipping and other signal degradation caused by power drain.

With the high-output pickups found on some electric guitars, it's not unusual to hear clipping when playing through an effects pedal. This occurs when the voltage range produced by a guitar's pickup is greater than the operating voltage of the effects pedal—normally limited to the voltage supplied by the effect's battery or power supply. HardWire pedals incorporate circuitry that increases the operating voltage headroom above that of the typical pedal. As such, HardWire pedals benefit a wider range of guitars and are also at home in an amplifier's effects loop.

DigiTech HardWire Series TL-2 Metal Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal Features:

  • 2-position Tight/Loose voicing switch

I bought this pedal about six months ago and i am blown away by it. I spent a lot of time researching for a good pedal for metal, that will still give good clarity and this is BY FAR the best one i found. it has a variety of different sounds, and has the potential to make any amp sound good. i play a prs standard 22 through it and it sounds amazing

Got this pedal about a week ago, plugged it in and it was cutting in and out. I was a little worried. Replaced the battery and turns out thats all it was. This thing is great, lots of variety of sound. If you dont set the dials right it can sound terible. So if it sounds bad, its not the pedal. Its probably the tone settings. It is built well and the volume and gain dails click as you go up or down. If you want great metal sound this is it.

I own a Digitech Metal Master and when I got that, I thought that it was the greatest distortion pedal in the multi-verse. Then, Digitech released this monster. On other distortion pedals (Metal Master included), I always spent a lot of time tweaking them to find the sweet spot. However, I did not have to do that with this pedal. For me, however I set it gives me a great, useable sound. Throw in the Loose-Tight switch and you get even more sounds. This pedal was also the first one that I didn't have to max out the gain for my music. Solid construction and even a little cover for the knobs to ensure that you won't accidentally change your settings.

I got this a while back because I wanted to restock my stompbox arsenal of metal after selling a bunch of old pedals. In short, this pedal is nothing new for Digitech as far as tone goes, it's still got that really palm mute-crazy low end that thumps and the trebble is pretty wild as usual, but where this pulls away from the Death Metal and MetalMaster is the EQ and the tight/loose switch. That loose mode is great for drop-A tuning and a big amp and also does good for soloing. Rugged metal box and true bypass. When you roll the gain back, the tone's pretty cold though and you can't really dial in any light sounds before early Metallica/Megadeth stuff. I wish they added more gain and made 0 be the Metallica era instead of digital crunch that sounds pretty useless. But crank that gain, and you're in death metal heaven.

Best metal pedal on the market

I've had this pedal for about a year now. I don't usually give anything on this site a 5 rating but in this case I must. Great pedal for metal. I play through a Marshall DSL50 head and although it gets amazing hard rock and 80s metal sounds, it can't get the same tight sound as a good solid-state distortion pedal. This pedal is extremely tweakable which helps you get a wide array of metal sounds ranging from 80s metal/hard rock to more modern metal sounds. Digitech also added a "mod" switch much like Keeley does with his mods. As a comparison, I think this pedal sounds better than the Boss Metal Zone which I always thought was a harsh sounding pedal no matter how you EQ it.
