The DigiTech HardWire DL-8 is a delay and looper effect pedal that features stereo I/O with selectable tails and a choice of 11 different delay types. Among the delays you can configure with the DL-8 are Analog, Lo-Fi, Tape, and Reverse. The DigiTech DL-8 pedal also provides up to 8 seconds of delay and 20 seconds of looping as well as functions like tap-tempo and more.

DigiTech HardWire pedals represent a commitment to quality and attention to subtle details. In addition to technical enhancements like true bypass and high voltage operation, all DigiTech HardWire guitar pedals feature rugged, all-metal construction, a wide, stage-stable footprint, durable, custom-machined metal knobs for a sure grip, and precision potentiometers that guarantee knob positions will stay intact.

The rugged, durable construction of DigiTech Extreme Performance Pedals is just the beginning. Inside each HardWire guitar pedal are technological features that serious players require—all updated and improved to their utmost capacity. True bypass preserves the purity of your original tone as signal passes through the pedal, and high voltage operation further protects your sound by eliminating clipping and other signal degradation caused by power drain.

With the high-output pickups found on some electric guitars, it's not unusual to hear clipping when playing through an effects pedal. This occurs when the voltage range produced by an electric guitar's pickup is greater than the operating voltage of the effects pedal, normally limited to the voltage supplied by the effect's battery or power supply. DigiTech HardWire pedals incorporate circuitry that increases the operating voltage headroom above that of the typical pedal. That means the HardWire DL-8 delay looper pedal can work with a wider range of guitars and is also at home in your amplifier's effects loop.

DigiTech HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper Guitar Effects Pedal Features:

  • True Hardwire bypass
  • Constant high-voltage rails
  • 11 delay types and 7 delay algorithms (digital, analog, tape, modulated, lo-fi, reverse, and loop)

  • 8 seconds of stereo delay and 20 seconds of stereo loop time
  • Stereo 1/4" inputs/outputs
  • Controls for delay level, delay time, repeats

I'm not in the habit of writing reviews, but this pedal deserves props. If you're like me and you've been searching for a delay pedal that doesn't add any line noise to your mix then look no further. I've had all the Boss's including the dd-20, I've the H2O, the offerings from Dunlop and E.H. and found that they ALL added varying levels of hiss, hum, and in some cases ringing to my mix whether they were turned on or off.

This pedal has all the features I was looking for, excellent tone(especially in analog mode), and most importantly it's completely noiseless. (Insert sigh of relief here)

The Good: This pedal has a range of good, smooth sounds, some with a decent amount of personality. Everything from a rockabilly slapback to Pink Floyd to a perfect clone of what you just played are in there. Overall, it is a clean machine. If you're looking for a clean delay that never breaks up, this is your pedal. I think the high voltage rails are the main reason you'll never hear this pedal clip unless you intentionally overdrive it with an overdrive pedal. I haven't tried that yet... it could be interesting. Also, it's built like Boss pedals wish they were built. A good analogy of it's sturdiness would be when automobile bodies were built from sheets of steel instead of today's fiberglass and light aluminum. Another plus - two inputs (for your synths and the like) and outputs = stereo, which is the best way to hear how good this thing sounds. The Bad: As mentioned, it has a decent amount of personality, but if this pedal was a girl and you were on a first date, you might be a little bored by her reservedness. She plays it safe, never acts wild or challenges you. You won't get any kind of dirty delay from this pedal. Depending on your needs, that could be good or bad. I'd like it if the extreme settings were closer to bordering controlled chaos than the DL-8 can offer. Also, getting into Tap Tempo mode is difficult. It seems like if you don't release the pedal after EXACTLY 2 seconds, you don't get into Tap Tempo. When you do get into tap tempo, the pedal is rather stiff and resistant to foot clicks and therefore it takes awhile to get your repeats tight with the drummer. In summary, I give it an overall score or 3.5 because the functional drawbacks for a major feature like Tap Tempo are hard to overlook, but the sound and build quality are very good.

Its a little pricey, but for everything you get its totally worth every penny. The looper is ideal for clean rhythms and heavy riffs, It diffidently helps train your ear for timing. The delay is very adjustable and its very easy to tune to your likings. Very sturdy product and doesn't change the sound of my amp at while on bypass. Overall Digitech made a great product and i'm happy to own it.

Incompatible with Vox Night Train

I bought this pedal for my Fender Hot Rod DeVille and Marshall VS100 and it worked wonderfully with them (and with my Slash Les Paul). The pedal is built like a tank, very solid-feeling. I liked the available delay modes. Low-Fi, tape, and Analog seemed particularly useful. Having a tap tempo I discovered is a must. A few days afetr I got this pedal, though, I also picked up a VOx Night Train. Using the Vox and this pedal resulted in the VOx cutting out in Pentode mode, so I had to return the pedal (or the VOx - no way!).

I have been using this delay for about 3 week's and i am loving the sound, i like the slap back setting's because it is easy to dial in just the right amount. This pedal seem's well made and feel's solid. I got the power supply and do not use the battery. I had tried other delay's (boss, carbon copy) but went with the dl-8 and i am glad i did.
