Digitech creates a Grail pedal.

Rare is it that an effects pedal manufacturer makes a singularly historic pedal. Some folks refer to these as "Grail pedals". You know what I mean; one of THOSE pedals. Like the Ibanez TS808...or the Boss DS-1 and MT-2. Or like the Cry-baby Wah. All produce a signature tone so brilliant that it stands head-and-shoulders above other effects pedals. Digitech...who has produced solidly good pedals for years...and has even logged a couple of Historic-level effects (the Whammy and the Space Station) has finally created an overdrive pedal that deserves to be logged into the Legend book. I'm talking about the Hardwire CM-2 Tube Overdrive pedal. Sure, their Bad Monkey pedal made some excellent tones...but it just lacked that little extra to make it a Grail pedal. Well...the CM-2 has no such shortcoming. This pedal's tones are every bit as mind-blowing as my TS808. To be fair, the CM-2 actually offers up more tonal diversity than the TS808. The boutique design of the pedal makes it very attractive...and it just oozes appeal. The two band EQ works surprisingly well. In particular, one of the CM-2's strengths is how much Low-end it will push. Candidly, in three decades of playing guitar, I've never encountered a pedal with this much low-end adjustment or PUSH. Though made in China, this pedal's quality is quite good. Mine came with some scuffs on the matte paint that are only visible when you really look closely. Other than that, everything is spot on. I've got custom pedals that don't do what the CM-2 does; THAT is just how good this pedal really is. I consider this pedal to be one of those rare Grail effects...one whose tonal output is simply mind-blowing. Good job Digitech!

Seldom do I feel compelled to sit down and write a review, but this pedal makes me do so. I got this pedal 3 days ago and it does exactly what I've been searching for. I was looking for an uncompressed overdrive pedal that was warm sounding and reactive like a tube amp. I tried the Wylde overdrive, the Ibanez TS-808, Fulltone OCD, Marshall Bluesbreaker II and Guv'nor, Krank overdrive, on and on and on. This little unit provides clear, transparant overdrive. Has a nice mid range hump like the TS-808, but has more dirt if you need it PLUS active treble and bass controls so it cuts and boosts not just cut. Tonewise is very similar to the 808 but has a bit more dirt. I wanted it for blues tones with a strat in the 5th position and also P90s on my Paul. Love it!

This pedal is the icing on my cake, so to speak, when it comes to my pedal board. I had every type of pedal you can think of including: crybaby, distortion, flanger, etc. Also, I'm using a Randall RX120D (solid state) amp. All of this equipment topped of with a Schecter C-7 ATX and some Monster Cables was still missing something. I had realized I need an overdrive, and I tested several out from the Zakk Wylde(sorry Zakk), Ibanez Tube Screamer and Bad Monkey, to name a few. The CM-2 was by far the best overdrive pedal I've ever played on. My friend, who knows nothing about guitars, heard me playing when I kicked it on, and even he said he heard a huge difference. I don't know what people are talking about when it comes to mud and all this other stuff. This is the pedal that brought my sound together. It's worth every penny!

Great tone controls

On par with other great sounding tube emulators, but the build quality is above the others. My main reason for buying this pedal is that this is the first OD pedal I have found that the tone controls can replicate the sound of a guitar with the pickup tone set to "0". Far more range than other pedals. It also uses "Relays" to perform the bypass - superior to the "boutique" stomp switches. I play a Fender Strat Ultra through this pedal, and into a Fender Ultra Chorus amp, or with a direct box into the P.A.
