The Dean Markley GT1000 Micro Amp is a great amp for beginners. Personally I bought it to use it as a preamp. MY setup is ESP F-50 > crybaby > rocktron hush > Dean Markley GT1000 Micro Amp > Ibanez DS7 > DigiTech RP-50 > Mixer > Marshall Full Stack. It works well as a preamp if your tight on cash and space. Overall it a good product.

Nice Cheap Amp

I picked up one of these this weekend. After spending my wad on a nice guitar, I didn't have much left for a good amp. Also, I travel and need a dual voltage 110v/220v amp. NONE of the amps were dual voltage. So I decided go go for a battery powered amp to get by for a while. I'm impressed with this amp. It has a great clean channel and the distortion channel is impressive too. This small amp has a 3 inch speaker instead of a 2 inch speaker like most tiny amps. I was impressed how it sounded with my Telecaster, but it did have some hum in distortion mode. My friend played it yesterday with his Applause electric/acoustic and it sounded amazing. For a cheap amp, you can't go wrong with this one. Also, the belt clip is metal and very durable. At first I thought the clear blue case looked cheap, but now I think it's kind of cool. So far I played it for 5 days with the same battery. I recomend this amp if you are looking for something portable and cheap that still sounds good.

i bought one of these from my local pawn shop and the one i bought came with a tuner. overall i must say this is a great amp for beginners and practicing, but when the battery starts to die it becomes fuzzy,it is very durable, however,i would recomend buy one without a tuner and just buy a separate tuner because the tuner is to easily distorted.

I would recommend this little guy more for people who are going to play single coils through it and aren't looking for heavy overdrive. The response of the overdrive circuit is not what you'd call smooth and creamy, instead after a point it goes to muddy. With humbuckers it's a little hard to stay below that place where crunch turns to mud. Also with a 2 inch speaker to get any kind of a warm sound you'd need single coils. All that being said, for the price, you really can't complain. I also recommend adding the danelectro fab echo for some depth, I found they sound good together.
