Great Unit - BUT...

Dano really needs to step up quality control. I'm bringing the SECOND defective unit back this Thursday. That's 2 for 2 & completely unacceptable in my opinion. The unit when it's working sounds great. It's got vintage tone & a wide range of useable reverb sounds from Bluesy leads to 60's & 70's Classic Rock, Motown & Funk to old Surf Tunes. I had a Holy Grail & prefer this by far. Sure it ain't a fender Reverb, but it also doesn't weigh 13 pounds & fits on your pedal board. I plug mine at the end of my chain after compression, modulation, overdrive & delays, right before a clean boost for leads straight into the front of a Weber '57 Tweed kit & it sounds amazing. Now if Dano could do something about Qc...

Surf Guitar Spring King

This unit sounds best and has a real spring in it that creates a authentic spring reverb heard on all the surf and instrumental guitar albums - I have many of these type units - this is the best to me - I play through it every day for a year now no problems once and a while the spring jams but all you have to do is bang on the kick pad and it's ok - Walk Don't Run and Pipeline type instrumentals sound great through this unit - Real Vacuum Tube units get hot and have more service problems than this unit - I have to admit I didn't like it at first but later learned how to use it right - it helps to play it through another reverb unit or use the Amps room reverbs with it in line - wow what a different that makes with the spring king sound - if you play across the strings on the guitar at the 22nd fret and slide down the neck it sounds like your playing under water - you just have to experiment - I wasn't impressed with the one page manual it comes with - but in tradition of the Fender Tank Reverb Unit that came out in 1962 it was about as informative - I play a Fender Jaguar with a Mustang bridge on it - I haven't tried any other guitars through it yet because that's all I use now - so I'm not sure about other axe's through it but I would feel safe to say others would sound just as good esp a Strat etc.. I feel it's better than the Holy Grail I have for Surf Music anyway - I tried a Boss Super Chorus pedal throught it playing Sleep Walk a Slide guitar instrumental on my Jag - wow it sounded just like the old record on just a 6 string - so you have to experiment with it - what else daaaaaaaa it's hang 10 dudes buy it

This is the only reverb in its price range I know of that will provide an authentic Surfy drip style reverb. It's also the cheapest real spring reverb out there. Yes, it can sound trashy if you crank everything up to maximum, but it also can sound very good if you tweak the controls. The addition of some subtle slapback delay mixed in there was not publicized by Danelectro, but it helps to make the reverb sound bigger. Perfect for surf or rockabilly.

Garbage Can Reverb

Wanna make your guitar sound like its being played through a broken pawn shop Sears amplifier with the worst reverb you've ever seen in your life?

Well then, this is the pedal for you.

Without question, one of the worst sounding reverbs I've ever tried-- THANK GOD I didn't buy it sight unseen online.

Hey, I have a GREAT Danelectro Reel Echo Peday-- sounds wonderful. The quality and sound of the Spring King is in a different catagory altogether-- it is a toy.

It has one sound, with a bit of tone control-- that one sound is the sound of a REALLY BAD spring reverb. Might be good for novelty, or if you are somewhat trying to recreate the sound of an old spring reverb-- but not really- because I've had amps, like a Fender Twin and others-- and this sounds NOTHING like a good spring reverb.

Cheap, irritating, like a spring in a garbage can.

And the pad to recreate the sound of bashing your amp? hahahahahahhaha not even close. A total joke.

This is a sad excuse for spring reverb.

This is a great spring unit. Sounds amazing when your run it through a tube amp..like the Epiphone Valve JR head...hint hint! Once you get used to the sounds this thing makes you should not have a problem getting that vintage reverb we all know and love! The kick pad is fun idea, for those of you who like to smash your amps to get that crashing spring sound..! Worth the money
