got a USED damaged limey '67 baritone here on MF, and repaired it back to full functionality. Tone wise, the single coil lipstick pickups provide that chime only a lipstick tube can evoke. The baritone sound definitely comes thru - unique, one-of-a-kind, haunting and beautiful when played right. There is conviction in each note as only thick-gauge strings can provide. The neck is comfortable to play, and the frets are dressed cleanly and smoothly on the bottom side - no finger cuts! The guitar feels light, and not that neck heavy. unfortunately, thats all thats good. everything else feels...cheap. the body is solid basswood (not masonite over thick plywood like most danos), and its super thin. The pickguard is straight-cut sharp - not even a decent beveled angle on the edges. Also, the pickguard design looks like clear thick plastic over what looks like shiny cloth material underneath. The controls feel, look, and ARE cheap. The matte finish is a commendable cost-cutter -you can skip shining it to a gloss. The brushed chrome lipstick tubes feel like theyre NOT metal at all. It felt soft, like plastic. For its construction, its retail price is NOT justified. For not a lot more, you can get the Italia Modena which looks better made. Or The Gretsch Baritone. That said, the dead-on DOES sound great, with a smooth solid neck, its FUN to play, and very refreshing and inspiring. But thats all that matters, right?
