Great Sounding Pedal for Cheap

I bought this a week ago to put on my 'low end' practice pedalboard (made up of pawnshop and cheapy pedals like this one). I am impressed enough by this that I am going to buy another for my big pedalboard. The sound is very good, some say a copy of the Fulltone OCD, but I don't think so. It's a good description of the sound, but the OCD sounds better to me. This has a nice response, good dynamics, and a nice crunch. I'll be replacing my Boss Blues Driver with this on my big board. My practice rig btw: MIM Tele into DOD Milkbox Comp, Cool Cat Vibe, Cool Cat Drive, Boss EQ, Behringer Reverb(crap but it was cheap), into a Fender Champion 600 reissue. Great sound and versitile.

Good pedal for all applications

You have a wide variety of drive available from this pedal. With the drive at a lower setting and the volume up a bit, you can drive tubes fairly well with this pedal too. I've had mine for a few months now and to me, it seems fairly reliable. It's not had any issues. Sound quality is great and really responds to what and how you play. I would've liked to see a stacked bass/treble pot, but the tone control works for what it needs to do. The only real issue I have with this pedal is that even though it is a true bypass, it seems to suck some treble out of the tone. My ears heard a treble loss, but bass and midrange seemed to stay the same with or without the pedal. Perhaps someone with more developed ears may hear different. But this isn't too much of a problem for me, I can boost my amp's treble up to compensate or use a 6 band eq to even things out. Still, for what I paid, I got a very usable pedal. Remember, it's not a distortion pedal. It's more of a tone thickening overdrive. And in that light, it really shines.

Bye Bye TS-808
Posted by Wrenshaw from South Florida on Jul 9, 2009
Experience w/product: I have heard about it

Bought the Drive Pedal on a whim. Thought, "What the hey ... I'll try it" Thought I remembered reading something good about this new series of pedals in a guitar mag. Whoa ... it was the sound I was listening for right away. I play Modern Country and 'Heartland' music professionally. The TS-808 is now resting in my spare pedal case. Don't get me wrong I still love my dear old friend. But this Cool Cat Drive is what works for my sound (Fender Supersonic combo/ Fender American Deluxe Ash Strat). I'm buying a Transparent Overdrive also to A/B with my BD-2 Blues Driver. Don't let the $$$ signs fool 'ya! This is a GREAT SOUNDING overdrive!!!

Best OD You'll find for the price

Got this about a week or so ago now & couldn't be happier with it. I'm a 25yr+ Metal/Thrash/Shred-head...but I'm ont overly fond of "hairy" or brittle, scratchy distortions. I prefer using a couple of lower gain OD together into a clean amp. This pedal has become my go to for the base tone & I goose it with another OD for solo mode.

It's quiet, has just enough grit & gain and a tone control that doesn't get shrill when you bump it up. It doesn't seem to "cut" the lows like many OD pedals do when you turn the tone knob up. It's like it keeps the beefy tone and adds more highs to it. Don't know about longevity yet...but for this price it's an absolute keeper.

Best money I ever spend on a pedal

For the money, I dont think there is a pedal out there that can hold up to this one. I own a lot of higher end overdrives and distortions (Fulltone, Keeley, Zvex, etc.) and this definately competes with the big boys. Sound wise I would put this close to my OCD v3 pedal. It can get crunchy, but can still have excellent note defination and really responds well to playing dynamics. I like it so much, I have thought about getting another just in case something happens to this one and I cant get another replacement, or if they realize what they made and try to jack up the price of it later!! Only complaint is the position of the controls by the input jacks, as it is harder to adjust and can be bumped when plugging in chords. I re-housed mine though, so that took care of that problem.

Overall, I would definately recommend it. Looks (and Danelectro history) is VERY deceiving!!
