I've been searching for a tube amp in the just under $1,000 dollar range. Checked out mesa,fender,ibanez and other all tube amps. This one is the most versatile for the money. The sounds are unbelievable. The clean is very warm and gives that concert hall sound, while the gain with distortion is just as awesome. Also like the top access to the knobs, and the fact that it is on casters. I was a crate fan in the early 80's but more recently disapointed, until now. Crate is back! Try one for yourself and you wont believe it.

I've owned my Crate for about 14 months now and have hardly had any problems with it. Blew an LED out in the footswitch (silly story). I did have a jack come loose after about 7 months of use. That was fixed and I haven't had a problem since. The cabinet rattles a little but rarely. Seems to be only certain pitches. The effects are good but you can only deminish or intensify them. I bought pedals to replace them except for the Chorus. My opinion; Chorus is best effect on amp esp. on low end.

I use a Gibson Les Paul Studio mostly. The tone is gorgeous. The clean is great and warm. Overdrive is classy EL34 fuzz. I use a Marshall Jackhammer for punch. I've had 3 friends buy one after me and they have never had a problem at all. Good overall amp for the value. Just take care of it!

Had this amp for over a year and own the V30 also. Excellent amps with super tone at all levels of volume. This is a VINTAGE toned amp, not a XXX Mesa want a be so don't buy this amp for drop tuned low register stuff. The Crate SS line is for that. This V (Vintage) Series is for all the Classic Rock tunes you ever heard and I can get Petrucci's "Glassgow Kiss" from G3 Tokyo spot on with delay and reverb at half and gain 2 oclock. 30 years playing them all and this amp will sing if you can play.

This is a great sounding amp. Lots of headroom on the clean channel. The distortion takes some work to keep it from getting buzzy but that's common. The digital effects are OK but I would trade them all for a good analog reverb. Had it a year with no problems.

Bought it new, loved the effects and the tube tone. It was very smooth and articulate at high gain settings. In less than two weeks I started having problem after problem and it stayed in the local Crate service center more than in my house. Demanded my money back, got store credit and like the previous poster I got a Peavey (XXX combo).
