Coffin Case Black Kross SK-110B Pedalboard Review.

As far as value for the money this pedal board is hard to beat. I bought this about a month ago and have been using it in a professional setting and couldn't be happier. The dimensions of 25.5"x 11.5" more than enough for A Crybaby wah, DOD Envelope filter, Boss Super Phaser, Danelectro Tremolo, Digitech Bad Monkey, Boss Super Overdrive, DOD Analog Delay and Digitech Digital Delay. All of this plus a power strip and room to spare for about two more pedals!! Some other reviews have expressed disappointment in the seemingly weak choice of material for the platform, but I found it to be exactly the same molded plastic used in the "hybrid" guitar cases that many of us use lugging axes to and fro. After hours of use and alot of crybaby action I have yet to experience the "Squishy" feeling others have mentioned Here's a trick that I found to be a big help. With the quick removal of four screws on the bottom section, the angled platform is completely removable. Once I had the pedals secured with velcro, i drilled two small holes on either side of the pedal and ran a zip tie around it which I cinched tight on the under side of the platform. Those things aren't going anywhere!! So with that extra security of mind, I find this pedal board to be sufficiently sturdy and all of the latches reliable enough for a gigging Musician. A Great bargain for the money.

This is a great board for the money. I read the reviews re: the pad and board top as weak. Four screws, 2 in front, 1 on each side and the top comes out. It is made of wood and padded velcro. You can either brace it or drop it flat like I did. Works great and very solid. The hinges are cheaper but you can't beat it for the price.

You can't go wrong with this board for the price. The only problem I had with it is that it had no padding on the inside to keep the pedals from flopping around (cause even the more heavy duty velcro doesn't wanna cooperate sometimes). I took care of this by putting my own and now it's good. I'm play two to three gigs a week and this thing has held up really well so besides the sculls (which is just not my cup of tea) this is an excellent buy.

This is a great case for a more casual user, but won't do it for a touring pro. But for the price, you can't go wrong. The shell easily flexes, but it's still easily better than a bag. I wish it used a detachable hinge on the back, but instead it has four latches, which is kind of a pain. The velcro backing is extremely secure. Tip One: The "death grip" hook tape is also known as industrial strength velcro. You can get a lot of it, including the loop side for other projects, for cheap from your favorite "everything" store. Tip Two: Let the tape cure for a day before you try to set your pedals to your board. You will rip the tape off your pedals trying to reposition them. In fact, the velcro is almost stronger than the tape even when it's cured.

Good, but not great

Overall I'm satisfied with this purchase. I bought it used on Musician's Friend so it was even cheaper than the already low sale price.

Pros: It's a good size - it would be tight, but you can fight up to 12 standard size pedals on it. The bottom is very sturdy and the angled surface is a great change to the flat home-made board i was using. And it's bound to catch some eyes when you carry it - If you like your gear to look good then I highly recommend this Coffin board.

Cons: The loop velcro on the board isn't good. I have industrial strength hook velcro on my pedals and they don't stick well. I can carry it without them falling off, but I wouldn't flip it upside down and shake it like i did with my old board. Apparantly the velcro is compatible with Coffin death grip hook velcro, but for some reason I'll never understand - they neither supply the death grip velcro with the board nor advise you to purchase it separately. Finally, the quality is quite low. The wood is paper thin and the aluminum is easily bent. If you're going on the road with this board just make sure not to set anything heavy on the lid or it will likely collapse.

In the end, though, I'm happy. There's no other board this large and this cool looking in this price range. But definitely get the death grip hook velcro and don't try to use the lid as a step stool.
