The 1990 is unique and a classic all at the same time. |
Bugera made the 1990 Classic the first guitar amp head that switches between full-throttle pentode or more harmonic triode (60W) modes. The tube amp's Clean and Lead channels have separate master Volume and Reverb controls. Bugera tossed in a dual-control footswitch others charge extra for. Using powerful economies of scale and advanced manufacturing, Bugera produced a value-priced amp head that puts biting British tone within range of anybody who ever lusted after it.
The 2-channel preamplifier design includes Bugera ECC83 and ECC83A preamp tubes for breathtaking punch and impressive gain. First-grade Bugera 5881 power tubes, offer comprehensive sound control. 2 integrated reverb effects and an effect loop with Volume control round off the Bugera 1990 amp head.
Bugera guitar amplifiers are handmade under stringent production guidelines to ensure long life and reliability. Each tube amp includes classic valve electronics, hard-wearing switches and potentiometers, high-quality transformers and—not to forget—the hand-selected, precision-matched Bugera tubes. And, owing to their careful construction and component assembly, Bugera 1990 Classic Tube Amp Heads stand up to the toughest demands on the road.

Fantastic

Absolutely top notch. The sound is rather close to that coveted 900 classic, with distinct midrange punch and true classic tone, with a bit more push than what it's modeled after. The gain gets pretty high, and at the highest settings it's suitable for pretty hard rock or metal, not quite enough of a push for truly brutal or insane settings, but a pedal in front fixes that quickly, and since the clean channel (with the gain dialed down) is absolutely clean, this amp plays very nicely with effects pedals, and the FX Loop with the adjustable level is just a convenience that makes this amp beyond customizable. It's got a ton of features, especially for the price. Dual reverbs (on for each channel), separate volume and reverb knobs for each channel, recording output, direct output, 4,8,16ohm switch, selectable 120 or 60 watt modes... Need more be said? From what I can see, it's a damn durable piece as well, made with heavy duty materials and nicely polished as well. Bottom line? It's a versatile, warm-sounding tube amplifier with incredible quality at a fantastic price. Definitely a great addition to anyone's amp arsenal.

TUBE AMP HEAD FOR 450!

I recently bought this head as an upgrade from a solid state, and I love it! I, personaly, do not believe in digital anything on my guitar sound and this amp was perfect. It's tones are amazing from creamy slight distortion for blues to huge gain for metal this amp handles it all. The footswitch is very heavy duty. I plan on keeping this amp for a long time. I had heard of earlier Bugera amp models shorting out and that was mainly due to a cheap plastic conecter and could be solved by buying a higher quality one or direct soldering, and some other problems so I bought the extended 2 year warrenty. The reason that I rated this amp four on the features is because there is not a seperate EQ for lead and clean channels which can lead to too bright clean sounds when scooping the EQ for metal. I found a good medium though and it sounds great both ways.

I bought this amp a while back when I was at a local guitar shop and heard it being played. I imediately thought, "they sell marshall here?" I was amazed when I realized that it was a Bugera that I heard, not a marshall. This amp sounds incredibly close to a jcm 900 or even a jcm2000 and the price tag is even more of a shocker. I know that these amps have a reputation of suddenly shutting off and coming back on, but the amp is easily worth a shot. I have dealt with this problem on my 333xl and the answer to it is a $40 fix at any capable amp tech. It is caused by a little plastic gator clip (like those in computers) connecting the transformer to the PCB. all that has to be done is to simply remove the clip and solder the wires to the board and the amp is as good as any. It may need a quick fix to start out with but the overall result is completely worth the inconvenience when you turn it on are as blown away as I was at the tone you get. On a side not, do not buy a bugera cab for this as they do not do this amp due justice. buy something nice with the money you saved on the head.

Never Lets Me Down

Bought this about 4 months ago at Guitar Center. Could not believe the very modest cost. However, I played this head and thought I was listening to a hybrid of a JCM 900 and a JCM 2000. Now, 4 months later and lots of use, it has never let me down. Also, it has tremendous versatility and killer tone. Take it from a really nice clean with a nice sounding reverb, to Clapton blues, visit the tones of Zeppelin and AC/DC and beyond to super saturated bliss. Dont know why others have had problems but so far I am blessed with a tube head that will more than hold it's own. Also, the fx loop sounds great. Not so easy to find a high gain amp that likes pedals so much. Still cannot believe the high value to cost ratio!

Have mine now for 3 months and bought it from Guitar Center. Have been playing it almost every day and it it sounds great. Love the distortion channel - it's real brutal but still very well defined.
I can only recommend it. My 2 cents...
