Improved and refined replica of Red Special. |
The Brian May Signature Electric Guitar features an acoustically chambered mahogany body, a dual truss rod mahogany neck, and ebony fingerboard. The pickups are Tri-Sonics that Brian sealed in Araldite adhesive to prevent microphonic feedback inherent with metal covered pickups. These are controlled by the original Brian May switching system with individual on/off and phase switches, one volume and one tone pot.
The Brian May guitar is faithful to the spirit of Brian's original 'Red Special', an instrument that has achieved iconic status and a unique place in rock history, and designed by Brian May himself. The Brian May Special is a stunning guitar, blessed with superb build quality, awesome playability and an astonishingly rich diversity of killer tones. In fact, it delivers everything you'd expect from an instrument built to the exacting standards of one of the world's greatest guitarists but, in keeping with Brian's vision of a "guitar for the people", with an amazingly affordable price-tag that belies its' superior appointments and performance.
Without question one of the most eagerly anticipated instruments of the century. The original BMG replica was originally launched in winter 2001 to rapturous critical and public acclaim. UK Guitarist magazine hailed it as "Best Guitar of The Year" and theater audiences around the globe thrilled to the guitar's sound in performance in the Queen musical "We Will Rock You."
But the story certainly didn't end there. Brian, his long-standing guitar, technician Pete Malandrone and House Music have significantly improved upon the guitar's overall construction as well as refining the bridge assembly, electronics, finishing and color choices. Simply put, one of the finest artist-designed production guitars is now even better.

After many, many years of playing guitar and owning many models makes and years, i generally only play gibson and fender anymore. The Brian May guitar deserves a place next to the Les Paul, the Strat, the SG and the Tele. Its a great design that has not only held up, but grown stronger over time. The Brian May guitar sucessfully does what so many others have tried since the 50's: combine the best sonic and physical characteristics of Gibson and Fender solid bodies in a way that dosent take away from either. I would buy this guitar, i plan to, and I recommend it to anyone.

Got the Honey Sunburst today and I was very impressed. Came well packed with a nice gigbag(with shoulder straps so you can carry like a backpack); protective film on all of the plastic and pickups; a couple of allen wrenches and guitar cable. Finish is flawless just a beautiful guitar. The pickups sound great and the volume/tone knobs do their job. The sound? Wow it is really nice, and their are so many combinations.. I am really glad I picked this up. I recieved a Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded a couple of days earlier. Sound wise they are both nice, but the Studio just feels cheap as if Gibson is touting that you didn't spend more money and that you a lucky to buy one of their guitars with all manner of little blemishes. My life has been improved.

Whats with the several hundred dollar price hike? I returned one of these when they were much lower in price. This is not that great of a guitar. They dont hold their tune if you use the trem and the sound is not really that great. I have since made my own and believe me it is way better. Save your money folks, esspecially if you plan to gig with this guitar. They are cheaply made and do not perform well. I know several people who have them collecting dust because they were not quick enough to return them. At this price, you are only a couple hundred dollars from building a real one with authentic parts that work. This is a guitar for fans not working musicians.

I like this guitar and I am a fan of the old Queen from the "Sheer Heart Attack" Days. But this guitar is not up to snuff. The neck is goodbut the hardware is poor quality and this is an expensive guitar. I would expect it to be a little better built. So I will not buy it just for the name. Sorry but Epi's and Ibanez's are better for a little less moolah.

This is my second Brian May and I love it. I liked the original one that I had two years ago, but it did have some minor issues that could have probably been fixed by a professional luthier. I do all my own setups and couldn't get rid of some buzz on the low E string. I got a great deal on an LP and had to sell it. So fast forward two years and I jumped on this one again. The new ones come with a Wilkinson trem that I wasn't really happy with at first. The arm still just presses in, but there was no adjustment for the tension and it would just slop around. Well there is an adjustment; it's under the trem plate on the trem block itself. 1/2 turn and it's perfect. It's also a bit more stable than the original style was. Fit and finish are perfect on this one. I wouldn't say that it's drastically better than the old one I had, it's just like picking the best one off the rack at a store, this one was clearly a bit better built out of the two. Tonally it's extremely versatile and playability is just amazing. I love the chunky neck and with the shorter scale you can get ridiculous bends with the greatest of ease. The trem is just perfect for some vibrato and it's equally great sounding clean or overdriven. I woudln't say that it's going to get you that compressed EMG sound, but everything else is within reach. If it was stolen I'd replace it. Heck; I sold one and replaced it so that should tell you something.
