I have had this pedal for a while now (nearly a year) and I think it's great. I first became interested in the SD-1 when I found out Zakk Wylde used to use one. I bought it used off of someone who bought it when they first came out. For the toughness and quality of this pedal it is great. I have put it through a lot myself and you can tell that the previous owner really abused it, but she's still going strong. Using this pedal by in front of your clean channel you can tune it in to pretty well any classic rock tone. Put it in front of a dirty channel and you can really make some nice heavy sounds. You can also use it as a boost and it works great for that. I have played it in front of solid state and tube amps and in front of the ss it is just ok, but put it in front of a tube amp and its abilities really stand out. You can easily pull out pinch harmonics in front of a dirty channel. If you are looking for a pedal that has a wide variety of applications this is for you.

Santa Claus brought me this, as a gift on Christmas this year (as well as Boss DD-3, and soon EHX Holy Stain!!!). I'm VERY glad to say that this pedal ROCKS! I do how ever have a solidstate Crate GLX1200 half stack, but still. It's a bit noisy, but can be used as a tone leveler on the solo channel (which just sounds horrible alone), or a dist/OD box on my clean channel! Either way, I'm a proud owner of it! I still might mod it, but we'll see!

I tried this pedal with the MT2 pedal, Cooltron Brit pedal, Visual Sound 808 tube screamer and this pedal really was better than all the other pedals. Has a good punch and doesn't drown the Mid nor Lows. Well worth the money.....

I have owned this pedal for about 14 years now, and for several of those years the pedal stood up to everyday use. After about 8 years, though, the "drive" pot crapped out. I'm still not sure what happened, but one day it was just frozen and would not turn. I forced it to turn and it broke! I used to just through it in to the back of my old Peavey amp cabinet, being an open back model, and transport the pedal to gigs that way, so that may have caused this. Sound-wise, you can get great distortion tone, but at the cost of much feedback and noise. I have always believed BOSS makes great products, and this is the first to ever fail me, and then it was after 8 years of everyday use (and may have failed by my own fault). I have since soldered in a new control pot, and the pedal is usable once again, and will likely last as long as I do (and I'm still young).

this pedal's distortion when set right sounds amazing with the boss digital delay. it's an ok distortion but if you use delay a lot then definatly buy this to use with it.
