Not user friendly... but high quality.

The biggest flaw of this pedal is how difficult it is to actually tweak and customize it to your use. The labels on the pedal itself provide no instructions beyond the basic interactions (wah type, etc) and the user MUST have the manual to learn how to access the advanced features.

Once you DO access the advanced features, the wah can be customized to your needs and is easily the best wah I've owned (2 Crybaby wahs, 1 Morley).

Regarding the distortion, the factory preset is the Boss Metal Zone. I've switched mine to a Big Muff style model, and it sounds FAR better. It also includes a lot of overdrives, a Marshall distortion, and even a clean booster. Remember that these are not designed to be standalone distortions; instead treat them as color for the wah.

If Boss would have made the advanced features easier to access, I feel the reviews would be much more kind.

This pedal is kind of terrible. i bought it when it first came out, because I had extra money and thought the features were cool. Biggest waste of money ever. The effects sound bland. If you want a good setup, do yourself a favor and buy a Boss Metalzone for distortion, and any Crybaby for wah. I like the Zakk Wlyde and the 535 Q.

This was my first pedal I got. It is a very unique Wah-wah pedal, you can really dial in to get many more sounds than a wah, but I don't want those other sounds. It seems to do great at modeling talk boxes etc., but not that good at modeling a wah. Pretty worth it, but be ready for some change.

Great... as long as you don't want distortions!

I use this in a far from normal application... my trumpet! I have a mic that I can then run through effect pedals, and after a bit of tweaking this pedal is FANTASTIC! While all of the wahs sound pretty cool, it was the "Modern Wah" setting that really works the best. I haven't played with the distortions much, but what I have found is generally too noisy and gained out for what I'm looking for. Again, this could probably be fixed with some more tweaking, but having a great wah PLUS a uni-vibe emulation (which is also amazing) in one pedal is terrific! A great buy simply because of the versatility in wah sounds.
