best dist. I've used

This thing is pretty sick. I'm using it into a b-52 stealth head w/celestion gk12 loaded cab. Most pedals sound too nasaly, or when you turn the bass up it flattens out in response. The one thing I've learned though is to run these distortion boxes through a tube preamp before your main amp. Otherwise they all sound flat if there not tube driven. This one is great for the price.

Not worthy of the Boss name

I purchased this pedal based on the sound clips and was very disappointed. It is muddy and fuzzy. This is probably the worst distortion I have ever heard. I have tried dozens and this one is not typical of Boss pedals.

After years of selling one of the most popular distortion pedals Boss has trumped itself... This pedal may actually have too much distortion so you might want to back off the gain. I have the DS-1, MD-2, MZ-2 and all the other usual suspects but this is the most refreshing addition.. glad to see Boss in back to what they do best.. great pedals!!

Guitar World Lied!!! :(

Well, I had seen a couple Guitar World tablatures of Van Halen, and it suggested using a MD-2 for the EVH tone. Without listening to many sound clips of it, I stupidly bought it for $40 used. As common sense would suggest, it didn't hit the tone I wanted. Cons of the pedal would be: Cranking the bass makes it muddy, and cranking the treble makes it fizzy. Well, at least too much for my taste. Don't listen to Guitar World, this isn't your Van Halen tone! Pro's would be that its heavy, and has a LOT of bottom end, as suggested by the ad. It is perfect for, oh, Nickleback or something. It is pretty good for hair metal (Most of the hair metal tabs in GW have this pedal suggested), but not much else. Its more of one of those "turn it up loud and it sounds good" things to me. Not my thing, It may be yours.
