The FDR-1 effects pedal is based on the Fender 1965-era Deluxe Reverb — a coveted tube amp known for its natural touch response and distinctive, snappy, overdriven sound. In conjunction with Fender, BOSS designed this stompbox to re-create that legendary tone. Features include the same controls found on the original Deluxe Reverb: Level, Gain, Treble, Bass, Vibrato, and Reverb. The FDR-1 pedal also functions perfectly as a pre-gain pedal placed before an already overdriven amp to add the tone character of the Deluxe Reverb.

Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb Pedal Features:

  • Re-creates the legendary tone of the 1965 Fender Deluxe Reverb guitar amp
  • Level, Gain, Treble, Bass, Vibrato, and Reverb controls
  • Road-tough BOSS metal construction
  • Perfect pre-gain pedal for adding or retaining Fender tone color

This pedal is great and really makes the instrument your using it with pop out especially in a full back situation. It is one of the better boss pedals in my opinion, although the 2 piece knobs aren't as tough as the one piece and tend to break it dropped in the right spot.

I got this to use with my Blackheart half stack. It seems to be well built, just a little hard to adjust the vibrato/reverb knob. The overdrive is very good, I really like it.The vibrato is very nice also, very close to the real thing. Butt the reverb is very poor. With a clean tone its just OK. With overdrive it sounds really fake and extra cheesy. I will probably keep this one and get a better reverb unit.

But I am not getting the Deluxe reverb sound that I was expecting. It has a nice OD sound but I compared it to my current pedal for OD which is the Digitech Bad Monkey and there's not much of a difference there. I was expecting to have that slightly overdriven clean that you can get from a Fender DR, but even with the gain turned down you have to turn the guitar volume down almost too far for it to be heard in a band situation. I have played through a DR reissue before and I am not getting these tones with this pedal. Although to be fair, I am playing my Les Paul through a solid state Orange amp with this pedal. The Boss demo is the sound that I was going for with this purchase. On a better note, the Reverb is outstanding as long as you keep it controlled and the quality of this pedal is typical outstanding Boss product. It is a great OD pedal but was looking for a more subtle, creamy OD blues sound but still a good pedal. Just a little pricey for what you get.

I recently purchased this pedal to go along with the Fender Champion 600 amp. That turned out to be a great match. Combine the natural tube tone of the champ with the believable modeling of the 1965 deluxe reverb, fantastic. The main reason I bought the pedal was to add some reverb and vibrato to my sound. This pedal did just that plus add a little lower end sound. All in all this pedal is a great buy especially when combined with a champion 600 or a Pro Jr. I'll probably be purchasing the 59 Bassman as well!

Not bad, but a bit dull

I bought the pedal and tried it with a small tube amp then next will a flat Tech21 power engine. Not bad, better with the power engine. Doesn't have the sparkle and response of the real thing, but in the ballpark of the deluxe sound.
