first thing first. the ds-2 is an aquired taste so try this pedal out before you buy it. with that being said i like the features this gives you two differnt distortion types mode 1 has more of a typical distortion sound mode 2 is a bit fuzzier with a mid boost. this pedal is good for anything from pop music to hard rock. not very good for metal music

I got this thing because to me it has lots of bite. I mainly stay in mode 2. Anyone who seen Prince live knows that this pedal totally rocks and YES HE CAN SHRED.For me it has a sound that really sticks out. Being just a kid when this pedal came out (1987/1988) I grew up hearing this sound as well as the early grundge thing. It can get loud. It is my main distortion pedal. I really don't know why this thing don't get more props.

Not a Bad Pedal...

It is a fairly decent pedal. I am not fond of the turbo 2 setting, the first one is awesome. Nice heavy, almost fuzz settings. Turbo 2 works well on low amounts of distortion, it has a certain windy output when it is high in the distortion. The first turbo setting will be a sticky type distortion. Great for a Grungey feel to it. I think the turbo setting is a piece of junk. The pedal would be good just with only one turbo setting. It is WAY different from the Ds-1. The Ds-2 is way better than the taiwan Ds-1. Overall it is a good distortion, but not the finest.

Not bad at all

To be honest, this is probably not the best disto. pedal out there, but it doesn't means it's bad. I've own mine during 1 and a half year, and it has responded pretty well to my demands (I use to be an 'abussive' guitar player), but I'd like it more if it had got a little more of bass.

Anyway, this pedal will respond to anything that needs a respectable distorioned tone. I use to play from light and poppy Indie rock cover to high-gained Alternative metal covers (plus my own band's material), and it has suited all pretty good, it makes good even with my sporadical 'noise' jams. There may be pedals which can produce a higher level of distortion, but this one makes pretty well.

The sound of this pedal is probably one of the most common tones in the modern rock world, which makes it a little generic, but you can work on a weird equalization from your amp in order to make your own sound.

If this pedal got lost or stolen, I'd likely buy another one. It's a good piece for modern rock music.

Good pedal.

Well I've owned this pedal for 10 years. It's tough and dependable. It works real well for a Nirvana style sound and works great with Fenders. I've had some issues where it seems thin and kind of anemic sounding when I play my Les Paul through it. But it gives a really good "classic" 90's sound. I normally prefer the 2 setting, but the 1 has it's merits also. It's a tough pedal, I'm pretty sure I've hammered nails with it once or twice before.
