Well, I got this thing thinking it would be a great sub incase my tube screamer ever crapped out on me in a gig. After fooling around with it I decided that it just isn't the right sound for me. As someone commented earlier, there is too much gain in it, and if you pull back you'll lose sensitivity. Also a previous comment that stated it is slightly transparent in sound is true to my ear; and this is going through either a Blues Deluxe or Marshall 2061. So long story short, I have it as back up and practice at times, but when my tube screamer did die I went out and got another one instead of switching to this pedal.

I play on an old, rugged Marshall JCM 800 and it sounds great. However, there is not enough overdrive and sesitivity in it for lead work. I needed an overdrive pedal that would give me a little extra. I browsed around looking for the right pedal for the job and came across the Blues Driver. After I purchased it, I hooked it up to my JCM 800 at my next band rehersal and I was absolutely stunned by the tone. It wasn't too much or too little. Just Right. I keep the level and gain controls on it at 5 and the tone at 6 with the JCM 800 preamp all the way up. I roll my guitar's volume knob down a bit for clean crunchy bite for rhythm playing and roll it up all the way when I go into a solo. It has great response to dynamics and picking nuances. Even when it is cranked you can still here every note played within each chord. This pedal will do exactly what you need if you looking for great vintage rock n roll tones without too much disortion and compression.

The BD-2 Blues driver is an amazing pedal if used correctly. It took me about a year or so to really figure it out. I use it as a clean boost as well as a solo boost. If you put this pedal after a tube screamer and set it correctly you can get great tones. Also, you can use it as a clean boost but the tone isn't that warm so you'll really have to set your guitar and the pedal correctly if you want a warmer sound.

I bought one of these on a whim a few years ago, and though it has a pretty good tone, it isn't nearly as bluesy as the name would imply. The sound of this pedal is fairly transparent, with a surprising amount of gain, and a fairly versatile drive structure. The top end is glassy, and the bottom end bassy, without the pronounced mid-range of the traditional "green overdrive boxes", so if your rig is a little too warm for you, I believe the Blues Driver may just be the ticket.

I use the BD with a '74 strat and a modded Blues Jr. amp, in a chain of other fx pedals. It's a blues and rock sound. The BD provides full tonal range from deep lows to sparkly highs. Compare to the Tube Screamer which has a clipped tonal range emphasizing mid-range. The distortion is true to a warm, overdriven amp as compared to say the ice-pick distortion of the Metal Zone pedal. Also works well in series with a Tube Screamer or other distortion pedals. I plan on getting another as it is an easy pedal to mod (recommended) and is, to me, the very best overdrive pedal available. Also durable - it's a Boss!
