The BR-40 combines solid top-tone, classic styling, and an entry-level price. |
The Blueridge BR-40 dreadnought acoustic guitar uses the same wood selection as its higher-priced counterparts. Features a solid Sitka spruce top, mahogany back, sides, and peghead overlay. Gorgeous accoutrements like 5-ply body binding, mother-of-pearl inlays, and nickel-plated Kluson-style tuners. The contemporary series acoustic has authentic pre-war bracing that ensures tone and volume just like the finest vintage guitars.
If you've been searching for a Golden Era guitar that isn't priced like it's made of gold, then Blueridge guitars are for you. Reminiscent of fine American guitars built prior to WWII, Blueridge guitars are made with the same techniques as their antique counterparts, including many by-hand processes.
Like the best instruments, Blueridge guitars aren't overbuilt; they're crafted to be light and resonant. Meticulous attention to detail and quality craftsmanship is evident in the traditional, forward-position, hand-carved parabolic X-bracing which allows the solid Spruce top to ring loud and true. Blueridge guitars feature a traditional dovetail neck joint, slim mahogany neck, adjustable truss rod, and butterbean-button, Kluson-style tuning machines with an updated mechanism for modern precision and feel.

Incredible Guitar for the Money

IMHO, there is nothing out there that can touch the B-40 in it's price range. Actually, I like it better than a lot of guitars costing hundreds more. Factory setup leaves a little to be desired - I had to adjust the truss rod out of the box, and after a few days of playing, the bridge piece settled, but was easily adjusted with a shim. Aside from replacing a couple of tuners, I have had no other problems. Once I had everything tweaked, it has been nothing short of amazing for the price. I also own a D-18, and the sound and feel are very similar. I gig with the the Blueridge exclusively. No, it's not a Martin, but at a third of the price, it's hard to justify paying the difference - especially with the bangs and dings that you get gigging. Would buy another in a heartbeat, and have no hesitation recommending it to others.

Amazing Guitar

This is a pretty amazing guitar. I thought the back and sides were laminate but when you view the inside, you can clearly see that it's solid wood. Not sure why they wouldn't point this out.
(Maybe so they won't cannibalize their own higher end models?) This guitar RESONATES like crazy. It's very light and has a very nice complex sound. The bass booms with authority as well. I have an Guild Gad 25 and a Larrivee D-03 and I for sound I would definitely put it right up there, although the overall build of the other two are a bit better. (wood binding, grovers, etc..) Also, I think the case that comes with it is nicer that what is seen in the picture. I'm was reluctant with Blueridge at first, but now I am a believer. Would buy this again in a heartbeat. Is this a Martin? No, nothing is a Martin. Does it sound as good... I can't believe that it's actually close to it. It rivals my Larrivee and I consider the Larrivee better than most Martins.

Great For The Dollar But No Martin

Ive played this guitar many times and I'll admit it does sound very good and is very well made for the money. But it in no way can compare to a Martin in sound. Don't fool yourself. There is a reason Martin has lasted for 175 years. Again, good guitar but it is not a Martin in any way.

No Martin but good for the $

This is a great guitar for the money. Just don't confuse the issue and ever think that it stacks up to a Martin D-18. There is a reason the Martin is around $1,000.00 more. Don't attmept to convince yourself otherwise. You are only fooling yourself. You get what you pay for. There are no bargains or great kept secrets out there. This is a fine guitar for the money, but it is no Martin.

Excellent Guitar.. possibly best for the price

I had been going to three different music stores and playing all the name brands at this price point and the Blueridge BR-40 was the definite winner. It is laminate body and so will make an excellent campfire guitar. It scored over higher priced Takamine, Alverz, Tahoma (even their solid wood models) and stood its ground well when compared with the all solid wood Martin D-16RGT and Martin D-15. I will eventually buy a Martin D28 or Martin SWDGT, but the BR-40 will always remain with me as my excellent campfire guitar that requires lesser care than a solid wood one. I had purchased a Seagull S6 online from all the hype and then realized there was one more music store in my town that I had not explored which carried the Seagull. I immedietly went there, played their Seagull and was happy with my purchase online, untill.. I played the Blueridge BR-40. It simply blew away both the Ceder and Spruce top Seagull S6. The workmanship quality was identical with a slight edge towards the the Blueridge. Many people including me had been convinced by other reviews that all Chinese products are inferior, but the Blueridge really was much better sounding and well balanced than the Seagull S6. Don't go with what others say.. You will find plenty of reviews that claim cheap guitars ($300-$600) to be better than the high end Martins like D-28 etc... I don't know how people can write such reviews... so use your logic and possibly play the guitars at your store and decide for yourself. At this price point, I am really happy that I purchased one of the best guitars after playing many many in three different stores for over two weeks.
