Great sound but...

This does give you that tube amp sound. You can run it direct and it still sounds like an amp. High gain yes but it's a saturated gain. Not tight. It is a great sound for the price. As far as knobs I don't think it's really that versatile. You have to turn the gain knob close to off to aquire a classic rock tone. But turn it just slightly to the right and it saturates with heavy dirt. Then it doesn't matter if it's 12 noon or 3 o'clock. It sounds basically the same. The EQ knobs alter the tone moderately. Not significantly IMO. The ISF knob seems to be the go to control to get different tones. Also this pedal is fragile. I wouldn't suggest opening it up. Knobs tend to wear out. I've own the Blackstar HT Dual and DistX for almost a year now. The sound is great but be carefull.

This is hands-down the best "distortion pedal" I've ever played. (I put "distortion pedal" in scare quotes because it's really more of a high gain pre-amplifier that sits on the floor than a distortion pedal.) It sounds better than many high gain amplifiers. I am blown away by how great this thing is. The tone controls and ISF knob allow you to generate a wide range of awesome, usable metal sounds. At lower gain stages, it does hard rock really well, too. You can get 5150 and triple rec-style sounds out of this with little effort.

This is hands down the best sounding distortion pedal I have ever heard. A little pricy, but this pedal will actually save you the cost of buying a new amp if your amp dont cut it for hard rock and metal. The Distortion it provides is smooth and natural..it does not sound or feel like a pedal it sounds and feels like your playin a kick @$$ amp. The EQ has a broad range and you really cant get a bad sound out of it. The ISF control lets you sweep from a tight american 6L6 sound to a looser british EL34 aound and all points in between, AMAZING! You can really taylor your sound any way you want. The tube can provide a mild hum at hiest gain settings, but I replaced mine with a Tung-Sol and it is quiet as can be now. I really can't imagine anyone not loving the tone they will get from this pedal.

Ok I bought this thing to get a "metal" sound of my fender pro junior...dont laugh...The Pro Junior is a awesome practice/ blues/ classic rock(when "dimed") but I had the itch to play metal again and this pedal is awesome and does all that. When I use this pedal I have my Pro Junior with volume below 4 which is before it breaks up...I have not tried this pedal on a SS amp but with a clean sounding Tube amp it is awesome even at low volume

I bought one of these a few weeks back, I couldn't be happier with it, great warm tube tone, a good amount of flexibility and easy to use, its a high gain distortion pedal so obviously it was intended for just that, HIGH GAIN! Its has an AX7 tube in it to give you the raw in your face tone we all know and love. Its a great buy and well worth the price. Go check one out!
