This mini half stack from the HT Series pairs the Blackstar HT-5H guitar amp head with the HT-110 speaker cab delivers great tone during practice or studio work at any volume level.

The Blackstar HT-5H Guitar Amp Head
The HT-5H tube guitar amp from Blackstar is ideal for studio work or practice, packing all the great tone and innovative features of the award-winning HT tube pedals into a 2-channel, footswitchable tube amp format. The patent-applied-for ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) circuit gives you infinite adjustment over the characteristics of the tone control network and takes your tone from the USA to the UK and any where in between. So now you can effectively design your own tone and finally find "that sound in your head."

In making the Blackstar HT-5H ideally suited to home and studio use, the aim was to develop a tube amp that sounded full in tone even at the lowest volume level. With this in mind Blackstar designed a brand-new tube power amplifier topology. The HT-5H power amplifier is a low-powered, push-pull design that produces the crunch and breakup characteristics of a traditional 100W output but at a much lower volume via its 12BH7 dual-triode in push-pull configuration producing 5 watts output and delivers rich harmonics and compression.

The HT-5H amplifier head also has a fully specified speaker-emulated output, further enhancing its studio credentials and allowing any guitarist to get amazing tube tone straight to tape or disk, or through headphones. It also features the unique 4x12/1x12 voicing switch, allowing you to change the tonal characteristics of the emulated signal between 2 emulated cabinet types.

Add to this an effects loop with switchable level, along with 16-ohm and 8-ohm speaker outputs allowing you to run the amp into an external speaker cabinet of your choice, and you have everything you need for recording or practicing.

The HT-110 Cabinet The Blackstar HT-110 speaker cabinet packs 40W RMS and a 10" Celestion speaker for superb power delivery, and at under 24 pounds it goes wherever your music takes you.

Amazing Home Amp

If you want a solid heavy distortion and a chimey clean, you cant beat this amp. Im a father that plays at home. I dont need a Marshall stack or a Boogie setup, unless Id like a divorce. This little amp is more than loud enough for home use. I tried out a Peavey Vypyr, Line 6 and Vox Vt30 before settling on this. They were all about the same price and all the built in effects on the modelers were neat, but the modeling amps lacked a certain tone character I wanted. The Vox ran second to The Ht-5 for me. Line 6 and Peavey both sounded thin or artificial. The amp tone on the modelers all sounded like slight variations of the earlier preset. The Vox was much more tolerable, but still lacking a fullness in the dirty channel that I felt the Blackstar had. The HT-5 sounds great. Dont knock the 5 watts thinking it means low volume. It can easily fill your home with sound. The Ht-5 really expands tonally when a eq pedal is dropped in the front to boost. Great amp for what it does and especially the price. No regrets having bought this.

I am blown away by this little guy. It has the volume to jam with my drummer and bassist but I can also turn it down and use it in my living room. It is very high quality also. As far as the sound... It rocks! It has a great high gain tone (not really Mesa, not really Marshall). The ISF knob does change the sound from Brit to American but not like I expected it to.

Overall, I could not be more pleased. I gave it a 3.5 for features because it really could use reverb, but for this price it is a wonderful amp with a great high gain tone.

I bought this as a second practice amp, and not disappointed. It really lives up to the reviews I've read elsewhere. You can get a wide variety of tones, from bright cleans, to warm British crunch to heavy distortion. The 'ISF' feature really does work vs. being a gimmick. I wouldn't go so far as saying it'd please metal heads out of the box, but putting a distortion pedal in front of it would probably do the trick.

I really wish it had built-in reverb, but I knew that before buying. A few things I also wish it had: (1) separate equalization for both channels. (2) a longer cord for the footswitch. it's ridiculously short imo. (3) better indicators on the setting knobs. I have to get very close to the amp to see the settings since they're just little dimples indented in the chrome.

The headphone output with simulated cab feature is interesting, but doubt I'll use it much.

I prefer my Mesa Boogie Express 5:25 for overall tone and features, but for the price I think the Blackstar is a great value. It is made in Korea, which obviously plays a part in the price. The reality is that if it were made in the US or UK, the price would be much higher.
