The versatile tone of HT tube pedals in a great 1x10 combo amp. |
The Blackstar HT-5C is a 1x10" combo amp ideal for studio work or practice, packing all the great tone and innovative features of the award-winning HT tube pedals into a 2-channel, footswitchable tube amp format. The patent-applied-for ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) circuit gives you infinite adjustment over the characteristics of the tone control network and takes your tone from the USA to the UK and any where in between. So now you can effectively design your own tone and finally find "that sound in your head."
In making the Blackstar HT-5 amplifier ideally suited to home and studio use, the aim was to develop a tube amp that sounded full and toneful even at the lowest volume level. With this in mind Blackstar designed a brand-new tube power amplifier topology. The HT-5C power amplifier is a low-powered, push-pull design which producing the crunch and breakup characteristics of a traditional 100W output stage but at a much lower volume via its 12BH7 dual-triode in push-pull configuration producing 5 watts output, which is rich in tube harmonics and compression.
The HT-5 guitar combo amp also has a fully specified speaker-emulated output, further enhancing its studio credentials and allowing any guitarist to get amazing tube tone straight to tape or disk, or through headphones. It also features the unique 4x12/1x12 voicing switch, allowing you to change the tonal characteristics of the emulated signal between 2 emulated cabinet types.
Add to this an effects loop with switchable level, along with 16-ohm and 8-ohm speaker outputs allowing you to run the guitar amp into an external speaker cabinet of your choice, and you have everything you need for recording or practicing.

TUBES!!!

This amp is going to go down in guitar history as a classic. It has a very warm, rich sound with more than enough volume for bedroom use. The tone with the ISF knob on the USA side is reminiscent of a hot rodded Marshall JMP. If you have a LP with Burstbuckers, you're golden. You get a nice, complex, woody crunch. On the British side, it's more like a Vox than Marshall, but still very ballsy and good for blues and classic rock. It even came with a footswitch. The cabinet is very solid and seems well built. And it has a Celestion! I can't find anything to complain about with this amp. I've had and sold many amps since I started playing, but this one's a keeper!

Great little tube combo

I got this combo a short while ago as a replacement for another practice amp that suddenly died on me. I was considering a few of the various amps out there, until I came across the Blackstar HT-5. I specifically needed something to practice with, and I realized I was limiting my choices by not looking at tube combos. I did a little research and quickly settled on the HT-5. I've got to say, I'm VERY happy with this little amp. At 5 watts, I can really crank the volume, and it sounds great at any level. The ISF feature is gold, as it truly gives me a ton of tonal options. The effect loop is very handy to have. The crunch channel is terrific, I can get anything from slight breakup, to a nice classic rock sound, to exquisitely brutal distortion.(The guitar I'm using with this amp is an ESP LTD EC401). My only small gripe is that the clean channel is slightly one-dimensional, but that is easily remedied with a reverb pedal. The build quality is excellent and seems very durable. In short, this little amp is everything I was looking for in a practice and (future) recording amp.

Blackstar HT-5

Blown away at 5 watts. I have a small small to practice in and not much headroom for volume. This delivers great tone at lower volumes. At first I was bummed it didn't have reverb, but the tone is so rich and deep, I don't need it. This was a major upgrade from my Vox AD30. I also took a hard look at the Blues JR. The HT-5 quality construction is hand down better. Two different amps from a tone perspective, but with the ISF knob, I can get anything I want.

Only 5 watts, but has ton of tone

First, I can't believe this is only five watts, it's very loud. I haven't pushed it past the half way point yet. I love the overdrive channel, goes from blues to metal( 80's metal) very easily. The ISF knob basically changes your sound so you have several amps in one. Sounds better with EMG's than with Duncans and I've had to add a Ibanez TS7 to boost the gain for more modern gain. The clean channel sounds great, very crisp or warm depending on ISF knob. Overall great amp with fantastic tube sound.

Good but not Great

Overall I liked the amp but found it tough to find a great sound somewhere between clean and fully overdriven... the clean channel didn't respond well with my previous OD pedal. Most reviews on this amp are filled with everything thats great about it, I'll fill you in on what I didn't like about it. My key complaint was a slight, temporary jump in volume when changing channels. It wasn't noticable unless the delay pedal was engaged at which point it was all I noticed... and noticed, and noticed, and noticed. I contacted Blackstar via email regarding this issue. I received an immediate response stating that my question would be passed on to an engineer. That was approximately 4 months ago. Also, the 10" speaker is alittle boxy at high volumes which wasn't present when pushing an external cabinet.
Finally, the foot switch is hard wired to the pedal which isn't compatible with my pedalsnake... I tried a standard fender footswitch but it didn't work 100% with this amp. In the end, one of the better options for a market begging for a fully loaded, low-watt amp.
