I've owned this amp for over a year now. If you want tube crunch, you'll need an attenuator, bottom line.
Alot of these reviews says it takes pedals well, but who cares?? I didn't buy a tube amp to put a solid state pedal in front of it!
If you bought a tube amp for clean....shame on you!! This amp has gotten WAy too much hype for what it actually delivers

Outstanding For The Money

I have been wanting this head and cab for a long time. Every time I get the urge to get one, no one seems to have them and they are on back order; but my anniversary is coming up and my wife told me to see if I could find one. I looked all over our local area to no avail, but MF did have a few in stock. So I called and had them send it to me, and it well worth the money. I have a few AC30's, but they are to loud and big to just play around at home, and I have the Epi Valve Jr, and this makes a great companion to it. I can now just sit around the house and jam to some pristine sounds. With a few pedals, you can get just about any sound your looking for with this setup. I truly suggest getting this amp, especially at this price. I don't think you can find a better "tube" amp at this price. Granted it only has the two tubes, but it does sound great. Sure there are features missing from the high end amps, but that would increase the price and then make this a high end amp. All in All - Outstanding Amp!

Great amp!

I can't say enough about how pleased I am with this amp. I find myself using pedals less and less and just relying on the guitar and amp. Breaks up nicely at both 3 and 5 watts. I would recommend swapping the stock tubes out for JJs. My only complaint is that the 1/4 inch jacks on both the head and cabinet hold the cables very loosely. A tighter fit would be nice. Overall a fantastic sounding amp!!

Tone to the bone

I got this stack about 2 months ago for the studio. One helluva value. Sounds fantastic with my Strat. Loves pedals, I use a little bit of digital reverb and a tubulator (its a cheap tube screamer copy). I see no need to mod this thing, just turn down the treble a bit.
I also have a Epiphone Valve Jr. This is more versitile, although the EVJ has a more mellow tone.
Bottom line is that you cant go wrong with this amp! Come on!!!....You know you want one!

Great sound but maybe too pricey

This is a great little package with a really nice dark sound. I would say that it is more "American" than the Epi Valve Junior, but I wouldn't say it is an "American" sound. The quality is great and the tone stack is nice and adds some versatility. It takes pedals perfectly. I would say that 5 watts could get you over your drummer, but just barely. Don't get me wrong, 5 watts is quite loud, but a drummer is just louder. Nice tight bottom end, nice distortion, and good looking too which is very important to my wife. However, the price may be a bit steep. You may want to look at the Epi Valve Junior. That also has a great sound for less money, and if you want, you can mod it to 18 watts. I own a Fender blues deville and used to own a Fender Vibrolux. I can say that the deville is brigher and richer and that the Vibrolux had the best sound, but they are between $1000-$1200 new. That said, this is an EXCELLENT amp for the price and it really does sound great.
