Not Bad, But...

I bought the Behringer ACX450 because I have several other Behringer products and I am amazed at the price vs features (in other words, value) of their equipment. I get a really good acoustic sound out of the amp, and when I tried my electric twelve-string I was really blown away (can anyone say VOX?). The effects really enhance the twelve string. But the mic section seems to be really underpowered. I don't know if the amp is defective or if this is the norm. But I use this for open mic night at a local pub and need the vocals to compliment the guitar. What I finally did was plug the mic into the instrument channel, and my guitar into the instrument channel. This seems to give a little bit better mic performance, the guitar is a little muddier (but still satisfactory). And of course the various XLR to 1/4" adapters (and vice versa) this requires complicates things a bit more. Bottom line - for just an acoustic guitar amp this is a great little unit with a very authentic acoustic sound. But for a typical singer/musician it leaves a bit to be desired. I may send it back and try another one and see if it acts the same. But overall, I'm happy with the amp, and definitely with the price.

DON’T READ ANY REVIEW EXCEPT THIS ONE
Well I’m just kidding, certainly you should, but I think you’ll find mine to be very interesting. I’ve never written a marathon review like this about any product, but Behringer company deserves it. Although otherwise defined by Webster’s Dictionary, the word “Cheap” is often used to describe something of lesser quality and unfortunately Behringer products. The Behringer ACX 450 is low in price but there is nothing inferior about it. I don’t want this review to sound like others, the usual… I’ve been playing for x-years etc; but I guess I must. I’m a solo guitarist, most often play the classical guitar for the past 45 years. I play modern classical music at weddings and other romantic occasions. I’m also a Graduate Engineer, no I don’t work for Behringer! Over the years as technology changed so did I. Prior to purchasing the Behringer, 14 months ago I purchased a Fender Acoustasonic SFX II, an excellent amp in every way. The SFX stereo expansion, and string dynamics features are nice. However, it has more watts than I need and weighs a ton. At the last wedding I performed at I couldn’t find a near parking spot so I had to lug the Fender a distance and then up a flight of stairs to the banquet hall. That was the deciding factor to purchase a smaller amp. I thought about buying a smaller Fender or other high end brand, I’ve played through many over the years and most were very good. But in the back of my mind was Behringer that I hadn’t tried. Behringer equipment is designed in Germany, “very impressive” and manufactured in Behringer City, China. Behringer does not have their products contract built, they own a manufacturing plant thus build their products. Therefore you pay less, furthermore thanks to Uli Behringer their products are not ridiculously priced 500 percent above cost like some brands. The Behringer mission is to provide high quality equipment at an affordable price. Go to Behringer.com and read their story. Before I write more about the amp as an Engineer I want to clear up a couple of myths. (1) Anything from China that is junk is because we required them to build it that way. Chinese folks do beautiful work. (2) I’ve read reviews stating some Behringer products are clones of other company designs. REALLY?….. Behringer products are designed in Germany by German Engineers therefore….whom do you think is building clones? Perhaps that is the reason Behringer does not provide electrical schematics’ for their products. The Behringer is built as pristine as it gets, and sounds beautiful, I like its sound better than my Fender. Paramount was that I not only purchase a great sounding amp but also reliable. At weddings I often solo for the bride and groom as they dance with an audience of usually 100-300 people. I DON’T WANT MY AMP TO FAIL! I spoke with the nice folks at Behringer USA. They affirm that their failure rate is less than one percent, and I believe that because… I was curious to learn therefore I removed the amplifiers from both cabinets to compare. Because my major was electronic engineering does NOT mean I’m an audio amplification expert but I do have enough knowledge to judge certain fundamentals. The Fender is made in Mexico. Without schematics to refer to noticeable the Fender electronic architecture is excellent with quality components. The Behringer as I said is built in Behringer City manufacturing plant, China. It’s built just as commendable with better artistry, very detailed precise workmanship. SOUND: I can’t pick out sound for you but what I look for is a silky acoustic nylon classical guitar timbre that’s mysteriously romantic. The only effect I use is reverb if not naturally present and sometimes compression/limiter. It doesn’t have a limiter or compression features. Other model Behringer amps do. I have never heard reverb as nice as the Behringer. Very spacious…it simulates the sound of the Fender SFX stereo expansion. It is very beautiful. SUMMARY: I’m delighted in every way. Make no mistake about it, the Behringer ACX450 is an awesome very high quality stage worthy amplifier that I believe will prove to be very dependable for years. Forget about labels, low cost, and reviews that lack substance. The amp sounds great, looks great, and is built great, and it’s weighs only a little over 29 pounds. I hope my review is helpful to you. Thanks for your time.

This amp is good for practice and maybe even a small front porch gigs, but OMHO it seems like something high end I would buy at Target or Sears.
The sound is good and clear, but the mic section had too much feed back (om2 from Audix).
The speaker uses what we used to call a "whizzer" cone around the dust cap of the larger speaker cone. So the same voice coil is used for both highs and lows. The high end cant keep up with the lows at higher volume.
I prefer a true coaxal speaker which look like the car speakers displayed at Walmart. Two seperate cones with the tweeter centered in front of the woofer, two seperate magnets, and separate voice coil.
The effects sound generic and fabricated. At low volume, it sounds really sweet though, I'll give it that.
Overall, sweetsounding, clear, crisp bedroom amp, great first amp for the kiddos!

Amp for Church

Was looking for a small amp to play in small church and to practice at home with. Was considering the Troubadour, but tried this out due to the $100 price difference, and was quite impressed. I play a taylor dreadnought with a Fishman Rare Earth pickup, and the amp sounded great, but too muddy at higher volumes; however, I get a brighter sound by using the Fishman pre-amp with it, as I can really shape the high end.In small settings, perfect;larger settings, needs a little help.

Was looking for a cheap acoustic amp with mic input to do smaller gigs. I'm wary of Behringer stuff, but picked this up due to its price and the amount of shaping you can do with the EQ. Unlike most other acoustic amps, it's easy to get rid of the mid-range honk that's usually the norm in lower price range. Produces a great, shimmering, very true-to-life acoustic sound. The effects are, of course, best used sparingly, but being able to put a little reverb/echo on each channel is a great feature. Overall, it's a great amp, and outside of my lingering quality concerns, seems like it should have cost more.
