The BBE Process-"What it Is"

Loudspeakers have difficulty working with the electronic signals supplied by an amplifier. These difficulties cause such major phase and amplitude distortion that the sound reproduced by the speaker differs significantly from the sound produced by the original source.
In the past, these problems proved unsolvable and were thus relegated to a position of secondary importance in audio system design. However, phase and amplitude integrity is essential to accurate sound reproduction. Research shows that the information which the listener translates into the recognizable characteristics of a live performance are intimately tied into complex time and amplitude relationships between the fundamental and harmonic components of a given musical note or sound. These relationships define a sound's "sound".
When these complex relationships pass through a speaker, the proper order is lost. The higher frequencies are delayed. A lower frequency may reach the listener's ear first or perhaps simultaneously with that of a higher frequency. In some cases, the fundamental components may be so time-shifted that they reach the listener's ear ahead of some or all of the harmonic components.
This change in the phase and amplitude relationship on the harmonic and fundamental frequencies is technically called "envelope distortion." The listener perceives this loss of sound integrity in the reproduced sound as "muddy" and "smeared." In the extreme, it can become difficult to tell the difference between musical instruments, for example, an oboe and a clarinet.
BBE Sound, Inc. conducted extensive studies of numerous speaker systems over a ten year period. With this knowledge, it became possible to identify the characteristics of an ideal speaker and to distill the corrections necessary to return the fundamental and harmonic frequency structures to their correct order. While there are differences among various speaker designs in the magnitude of their correction, the overall pattern of correction needed is remarkably consistent.
The BBE Process is so unique that 42 patents have been awarded by the U.S. Patent Office.

First off go to the BBE website and read up on why this pedal was created and where it comes from. It is not an EFFECT! It is a signal processor. I run this pedal in the effect loop of an old Crate BV120H and it is simply the best! As for a little extra noise, buy a BOSS NS2 and problem solved! Tighter lows, punchier mids, smooth pronounced highs! Buy it!

I've had this pedal for about a week, and i think it's pretty awesome. I have yet to find a setting on it that makes a heavily distorted guitar sound better, BUT it adds tons of shimmer and bite to a cleaner signal. Really fun to mess around with in a feedback loop as well. I would recommend it.

Not a bad little piece

I purchased this today and I am very pleased. I have been in search of my "perfect tone" fo 25 years. The more I mess around with different equipment ($) the more I find what works and what doesnt. I usually play a LP standard through a DSL 50 / Krankenstien (A/B'd together) I have the two amps going into (DSL) 4/12 boogie rec cab (KRANK) 2 - 2/12 boogie rec cabs. I run theese on a clean channel loop my verbs and delays in the loops on each head. I use the Metal Muff for distortion and I put the BBE sonic maximizer behind it in the chain. I run a MXR 10 band eq in front of the Metal Muff. This setup is pure evil and will blow your face off... Deep thundering lows. (without rumble) Clean highs with great harmonics. You have to play with it. You will find it just to get sick of it and try to find a better tone... You know what I mean... But for now this is the best sound I have had...

No way

Do not get this pedal. It simply degrade and kill your tone. If you use this, you have no ear for tone what so ever. This pedal is just ear piercing bleeding highs and some sort of lows enhancer. I have seen people that use this thing and all of thier eq's are on 5. They are just too lazy to eq their own amp. I used it on stage and i was so embarrased by my sound i immediately got rid of it. I have heard people use this thing on stage and it is just straight humility. Most every body that plays metal uses emg's. With any pickup, your whole sound will sound like you are playing every friggin song on your high E string. It's that horrible. Don't be laughed off stage. Their is only one group of people that need to use this OCCASIONALLY and that is recording studios. They use this thing alot and it can inhanced certain things in a band's tone. If one person uses this in his rig, it will destroy your tone as well as your band's tone and sound. TRUST ME. WHAT AN EMBARASSMENT.

just experiment a bit

This is a very cool device. Really helped my sound but took a little while to dial in.....experimentation is key with this. The highs can be a little ice picky, but you just need to find how high you can go with the process knob before you reach that threshold. Do I love this pedal....no....but I really REALLY like it. It was absolutely worth the investment as I use it for both guitar and bass. It really has cleaned up my sound and it is much simplier to use than a straight up EQ. My guitar rig is a B-52 stealth lg100 head with a B-52 AT412 cab and my guitar is an LTD with a Carvin M22SD pick up in the bridge. My bass rig is an Ocean (made by Laguna) with active Bartolini's into a GK backline 210 combo and GK BLX 115. I set both knobs of the BBE at 1:00
