Sludgehammer

This has to be one of the sweetest, cream-filled, haired out piece of silicon engineering I have placed on my pedal board. The sound is actually quite dark for a fuzz, but that affords the sound a punch and oomph most boutique fuzz pedals lack. Most complain about not getting a completely depraved sludge sound out of it, but that was never a problem for me because I chain this up with my beast of a 1979 Big Muff III (not reissue) and it absolutely destroys all with a mighty hammer of sound. Best of all, it cleans up nicely whenever I turn down the volume knobs on my guitar. An awesome buy!

fuzz on top

Just wanna say that this pedal is great on top a slightly distorted sound. It gives a great thick tone and doesn't ruin any lows or break up in the end. I've been looking fo fuzz and bought this cause it's controlable no wild hissing and feedback ( I guess sometimes you want that but not always) but it gives a nice warm vibe. I also have a sanford and sonny bluebeard fuzz which is off the wall cool, think of a 1000 chainsaws on fire, but having this pedal is just as important to my arsenal.

Not really for everyone...

This isn't as fuzzed-out as you would expect it to be. You need to run it in front of a dirty amp or (even better in my opinion) put a light overdrive in front of it. It'll get the gain and sustain you want that way. If it was about $40 cheaper, this would be a great buy. As it is, it's a good product, but it's not all it could be.

shouldn't have bought it

I would first like to tell you what my gear is and the sound I wanted when I bought this. I have an agile AD-2000 guitar(amazing les paul doublecut copy), with a Marshall Avt 100x amp. What I wanted when I bought this was a ripping tone like hendrix on "voodoo chile", or cream era clapton. This just doesn't deliver. This pedal has some pros and cons, no doubt about it. I like the rock solid construction, and true hardwire bypass (meaning it won't change your amps sound). But it doesn't sound as good. It doesn't have the sustain, distortion, or volume I was looking for. I turn the fuzz all the way up, and have the volume pretty high. But I DON"T GET ANY SUSTAIN. It simply isn't as good as a fuzz face, a big muff, or the new Hendrix fuzz. And it is too expensive, I'm thinking about returning it and buying the new hendrix fuzz, or the voodoo labs superfuzz. DISSAPOINTED.

what can I say, this is a expensive...

what can I say, this is a expensive silicon Fuzz Face. I think I paid $140 (CAN) plus taxes. After not being that impressed with it initialy, I called BBE and ended talking to David who was very informative about the product. Afer giving me a couple of pointers on the pedal I was able to find a sound I was looking for. With the free fuzz I am able to "recreate" fuzz close to the
Who, Hendrix, some fuzzy zeppelin ( even though I think Page used a tone bender...), you can get thin lizzy,Late yard birds, doobie bros...china grove type of sound. From slight fuzz to " hey who threw the wool sweater over my amp? fuzz. I have used an actual Fuzz Face and I don't feel that there is a $50 difference. But it's not as "balls out" as a Big Muff. As with most Fuzzes it cleans up as you roll down the volume, and don't even think of using it with a wah pedal unluess you put the wah after the pedal to get that synth wah sound.
In conclusion... do I like the pedal?...Yes Do I use it often for that vintage blues sound? Yes Am I happy with the price I paid for it? NO.
Try it out your self.
