Handcrafted in a traditional Japanese mountain village workshop under the personal guidance of master luthier Kazuo Yairi, Alvarez Yairi guitars are made with extremely choice tone woods. The exotic laminated side and back woods and fine-grained solid spruce tops are naturally air dried and sculpted with individually hand-shaped bracing and dovetail neck joints. Yairi's brilliant design innovations include an extended neck tenon for a wider range of rod adjustment and no neck/body irregularities. A unique coupled bridge design removes the forward pull from the bridge itself for greater stability and lighter bracing leading to freer tone. This Alvarez Yairi DY91 features jaw-dropping laminated Hawaiian koa back and sides enhanced by abalone diamond inlays on the bound ebony fretboard, abalone rosette and body binding, and gold die-cast tuners.

17 years and my DY91 just gets better!

I purchased my 1992 Alvarez Yairi DY91 new fifteen years ago. It is by far the best sounding acoustic guitar I have ever owned. When I go to my local guitar store and play high end Martins, Gibsons, Taylors etc. I rarely encounter an instrument that approaches my Yairi. However, none at even twice the Dy91s' current price can compair in the beauty of its wood and finish. I would gladly pay the current price for ths guitar if heaven forbid something would happen to mine. Rob SFSD

I have had this guitar for 3 years. I have owned Gibsons, Martins, and Taylors, and I have kept this guitar longer than all of those. It's body is about the same shape of a Gibson Advanced Jumbo. It has the playability of a Taylor, very easy to finger. It has a great volume and balance of tone from each string like a Jumbo with Maple back and sides, with the extra warmth and richness of a guitar with rosewood back and sides. It has everything from all the dream guitars I want combined into one. Plus the appointments of this guitar would cost you more than twice as much on a the other brands. Everything is top notch. Its absolutely beautiful.

I have owned the Yairi DY91 for 3 years and think it is tops at any price. A gorgeous guitar that sounds great. Very bright highs with moderate volume on the lows and mid range. Does not drown out my voice. Plays great and looks even better. I have a Martin D28 and the Alvarez is still my favorite. You get a lot for the money.

I didn't expect such a fine quality instument for the price. The appointments remind me of a Martin D-41 Special. Attention to detail throughout the entire guitar with it's inlays, binding, and beautiful koa back, sides and headstock veneer. Action is killer. Plays like butter. The first guitar I've owned that actually sounds as good if not better with a capo on. Tone is very good and even. Doesn't have the low end of my Martins but extremely good for what it costs. I traded in a Yairi DYM-96 on this one. The 96 had a narrower nut spacing which made it difficult to play since I'm so accustomed to the "Martin" dreadnought size. I don't regret getting this guitar at all. Add a pick-up and it's good to go!!

I have been playing a Yari DY72 since 1979. After 30 years it still sounds great. I still recieve many compliments on the instrument. However, because of the countless hours I have enjoyed this guitar it is plain worn out. I say that with a positive tone. The neck is still straight and true. I purchased this guitar in the spring of 06 and I find it matches the same sound and quality of my old one. The only aspect missing is the mellowing of the sound with age. I hope I am around to enjoy this guitar for many years to come.
