Its a great guitar out of the box. but after time, the quality starts to fade away. yes, this guitar CAN take some serious beatings. mine has like 3 dents i think. but the neck is my main issue. after only a year it has already warped ive made many trussrod adjustments and the action is still high.. good guitar for the money but it wont last forever.

The ultimate beginners guitar

I've been playing mine for about 8 years now since starting guitar. It's a great guitar. Besides not being very loud(you won't hear it at all next to a couple martins or something of equal value), the sound is much better than anything else in this price range. The action remains a bit high after adjustments, but that doesn't really affect the playability of the instrument that much. This guitar can take a beating(a plus if you're buying a for a kid), having given mine many nice dents and accidental bashes against the wall and it still continues to sound great. So if you're a beginner or buying for a beginner, definitely go with the RD8. I won't do you wrong.

Keeps Guild d55 in case

I bought my rd8 so I could have a beater guitar sitting around while my Guild D55 stays in its case. The Rd8 looks a lot better in person, in fact when I saw it in the store I had to question why it was a $250 guitar. As for the sound, of course it is no guild/martin/taylor, not very loud, lacks some bass, but it is a nice sound with decent tone and I enjoy it. This is an excellent choice if you want to save the beatings on your custom guitars.

I have own this guitar for about 5 years and it has been great for the kind of music I play, this is a great beginers guitar. I love this guitar but I need to get a better one because it is not good for me anymore. the tone is ok. This is a good guitar if you don't care about the tone.

Nice Beginner Guitar

The people who are saying it compares to Martin/Taylor/Larivee/etc are full of it. It really doesn't. The guitar lacks bass and has an overall tin like sound. But that's in comparison to Martin/Taylor/Larivee/etc.

It's a fine beginner acoustic guitar. It lacks volume, and is pretty muddy but with a few upgrades it can sound like a mid level guitar. I put a Tusq nut, saddle, and set of bridge pins on it and the tone became much clearer and deeper.

If you're looking for a beginner guitar, or a guitar that you won't be afraid to bang around while your expensive one stays in it's case, this is the one. If you're looking for a cheap, but high quality instrument, this is not the one.

With the upgrades, this guitar holds its own against my friends bottom end Martin and Breedlove guitars. But it lacks the volume and clarity of a solid top and the bass from the specific build and woods.
