A year later

If I had written a review when I got the guitar, I would have given it all 5's. And it sounds and plays even better a year later. But, there were a couple of finish problems I was overlooking and now I can be honest: some varnish from the neck spilled over to the fretboard it looks sloppy and there was also a small scratch on the body were the neck attaches. Still, the wood tones are warm and bright and the neck is butter. Inlays, while small, are beautiful and the balsa wood binding is unique. I'm looking forward to years and years of it being my everyday guitar. If you want the best value in solid wood spruce top guitars, the MD 80 is a slam dunk.

The Best Guitar for the Money!

Spent three months looking at guitars and did not find this quality on any other guitar under $1,000.00! Finish was excellent, nothing wrong inside or out. Most playsble neck outthere for those of us without pencil fingers. Tone and sustain was great right out of the box. Very even across the entire fretboard. Would definitely replace if lost or stolen, was so impressed recently purchased a Yairi DY-84W, WOW!

I love this guitar

I bought this guitar six months ago, after a lot of shopping around. It sounded very good when I bought it. However, after comparing recent recordings made with it to recordings made when it was brand new, it's obvious the tone has gotten even better. And since it was made using solid woods, it will continue to get better. The tonal balance is excellent, and it sounds good picked, strummed, or fingerpicked. I would recommend it without hesitation.

I spent three months looking at guitars ranging from $300.00 solid tops to $2,000.00 Taylors and Gibson's. The MD-80 easily gave the most bang for the buck! It is a beautiful guitar with great tone and sustain. It has the most playable neck out there. Built overseas setup by American Luthier's in St. Louis.
