Like many guitarists, I have several effect pedals that are linked together. I also use a rack mount external effects processor for recording. This pedal eliminates the need for all those various assortment of tools. My Ibanez and Ovation acoustic guitars moved up to a different level of sound when plugged into this pedal. It is very easy to scroll through the options with just a tap of the toe. I also like being able to plug my headphones right into the pedal without going through my amp.

Alesis did a great job on this little box. Lots of good effects stuffed in a small package and a very good price and great intuitive format.

One of my favorite features about the Accoustifx is the body type and EQ. The "type" effect can give your guitar any type of sound, from a Taylor's brightness, to a Martin's full-bodied sound, to a Gibson Jumbo's deep low end. On top of this, you can infinitely tweak it with the 4-band parametic EQ.

As for the other effects, they were very nice sounding, and can do anything from sweetening your accoustic sound with subtle reverbs and choruses, to totally tripping out your tone with some funky phasers and delays.

Now for the cons: First off, the drive sounds like a pathetic little crackle with no good tone qualities. Second, if you really lay on the effects HEAVILY, (mainly chorus and phaser) they start to sound a little corny. Last, the expression function does not work all that well. It doesn't cover the entire range of an effect. (e.g. it will only go from "w to a," or "a to ah,", but not "wah wah wah")

Otherwise, this is a great product, no matter what your skill level. As well-priced as this is, you can't go wrong with it.

This box is really intended to enhance an electric set up by adding acoustic tonal charcteristcs - at least according to the user manual. It isn't all that great when used with an acoustic electric. Most of the presets are totally unrelated to anything you would want on an acoustic instrument - some really bizarre delays and flanges. Of course, they're all editable, and you're going to need to edit them, believe me. The unit really boosts the mids and highs, almost making my vintage Takamine F350M sound like a mandolin. This is so dramatic that the EQ settings you need to use to compensate make bypassing the pedal impossible; if you hit bypass you are EQ-ed so far away from a normal sound that it is intolerable. Construction quality is pretty good, although my unit has developed a tendency to exhibit random output level shifts of 5 to 10 seconds in duration; not complete drop outs but enough of a decrease in level to be noticable. As soon as I find something else, this puppy is history! Don't waste your money if you're an acoustic player looking for some live performance enhancement - you won't find it here.
